It says something about McAfee when I don't even want to pay $2.33 per license to have it on my home computers.

The Dell website says "This is a 1-User License Pack of McAfee Internet Security 2011". Buyer beware.

Oh SNAP! :teeth:

I agree. I've had so many problems since I switched to McAfee. It randomly takes up 100 percent of my CPU for 15+ minutes at a time, and now they started with pop-ups advertising sales on renewing the software. My renewal date is over 8 months away. Definitely NOT renewing with McAfee after this.

You can always use Microsoft Security Essentials for free for home use (and up to 10 computers for business use). Plus, it doesn't nag you to renew. I recommend it to my clients that are home users. It is very unobtrusive and doesn't suck up CPU cycles.

ArsTechnica describes the latest updates to it. Be sure to read the comments as many of these individuals are IT professionals.

Absolutely, spazntwitch! My son's an IT guy, and he recommends Microsoft Security Essentials to his clients. Hasn't mentioned much about McAfee, but I know Norton Anti-virus has caused major problems for some people.

bit defender and Kaspersky are tops this year so far but that will change in a month or two...norton and mcafee are way below the top 10 by many articles and techs

btw, Avast free has a very good pre-boot scan and it has a voice to tell you it cleaned or updated which is nice for older folks who do not know much, security essensials is good but there is a lot of scareware that it looking just like it on the web now

Deal is back and now $4.99

Unfortunately, aside from being a resource hog, McAfee is not effective at catching viruses, trojans or spyware. I am an IT professional with almost 30 years experience and when I see this on a PC I recommend that the user to take it off. McAfee is good at the corporate level but the retail products do not cut it.

The best solution right now is GFI's Vipre as your real-time protection with the free Malwarebyte's Anti-malware installed and run periodically. The free CCleeaner is also a must for cleaning out temp areas and the registry.
