Although that's what it says on the page, adding it to your cart does show $199 and when you then look at your cart, you'll see the $10 coupon and free shipping also applied. So it is still $189.99. Blue-ray is finally starting to get almost reasonable. One more $100 lower (below $100 total) and I might start getting ready to bite.

If you have an HDTV you should bite now, it's like going from vhs to dvd, if you still have an old set then yeah, wait

I have an HD-DVD player that I got last year for $98. It does look very good, but it also upconverts Standard def very well, too. I agree that it looks nice, but not sure it is worth $200. I don't think I'll be willing to jump to BluRay until it is down in the $129 or less range.

My problem is with the disc prices. I'm not paying $30 per disc! I got a $60 HD DVD player about a week ago that came with Bourne Ultimatum and 300. I already owned Eagles final tour HD DVD and I have been watching that.

Although I have been watching Eagles Hell Freezes Over DVD on an awesome OPPO upscaling DVD player it doesn't come close to watching Eagles in Melbourne on HD DVD and that is only on 720p. My TV is a 72" Samsung 1080p.

Netflix has a great Blu Ray selection.

Blockbuster online, also. That's a pretty good way to watch HD movies that you don't really want to buy (or re-buy if you have the DVD).

And Blu-Ray prices of new releases aren't really any more expensive than the DVDs, and rarely are Blu-Ray discs $30 (unless you're buying from a B&M Best Buy... and why would you do that?). From what I've seen, the prices are just about the same on both DVD and Blu-Ray when a movie is released, and usually the Blu-Ray has more bonus features (that's in addition to the better sound and video quality). Just as an example, the "max" edition of Wall-E (coming out in Nov) is $22.99 for 3-disc DVD and $28.95 on 3 disc Blu-Ray, both from Amazon. That's only $6 more for the Blu-Ray. And there's a two disc Blu-Ray that includes everything from the 3-disc DVD edition aside from a "digital copy" (for your ipod or whatever) that's only $24.95, making the Blu-Ray version only $2 more.

Other examples:

Pirates of the Caribbean: All three movies are only $20 each on blu-ray, and contain all the features and MORE of the "maxed out" DVD editions, which are sometimes more than $20 each.

Harry Potter 5 movie Blu-Ray set: $105 ($20 per movie), and a new 5 movie set is being released in November that's available for pre-order for $89, only $18 per movie. The films are also available individually for $20 each aside from the most recent one.

In fact, virtually every single "major" film I've come across is available new on Blu-Ray at Amazon for around $20. There are occasional multi-disc, mega-feature-packed releases that are $25-$30, but by and large nearly every Blu-Ray movie is available for $20 or less. Which for the most part, is about what the DVDs cost when they're new releases.
