Every time this deal comes around, people ask about the differences between the 51 model and the 71.

The 51 is a traditional style cord setup with a standard size cord which plugs into your player, and then the right earbud cord is longer than the left so you wrap it around the back of your neck. Surprisingly, the design works pretty well. I own the 51 model and the sound quality is excellent. I enjoy them very much.

The 71 has a short cord built in that plugs into a remote (so the design is good for a remote so you don't have so much cord laying around) or you can plug it into the included extension cable. If you don't use an in line remote, the 51 model is the way to go. If you do use an in line remote, go with the 71 because the cord setup would be better.

Both have the same drivers inside them and both have the same quality, so don't be fooled by the numbers and make the correct decision.
 
I also have the 51's and for the price they sound very good. They fit in the ear nicley and are actually confortable to wear for long periods of time.
 
Exactly. I use mine a ton at school every day with my Dell DJ and not only do they match the player and my whole setup, but they sound great for only $25. I'm sure the Shure's sound a bit better, but who wants to pay $75 for earbuds?
 
The 71's seem to be sold out as the price went back up and you have to buy through Circuit City now.
 
Cord length?

Anyone know the cord length on the 71s without the extension? And what about the 51s?
 
I have used both and actually took my 51s to Iraq. They made it there for 4 months before they broke. Over all, these are worth the money.
 
I also believe the 70's are made of all rubber on the outside so it feels a lot better.
 
I bought the 71s and regret it. The cord length is perfect for my iPod if I'm wearing a pocket T shirt. Anything beyond that is a pain because the extension cord is way too long. I got my wife the 51s and she's happy.
 
Noone knows the lengths of the cords? :hmm:
