don't know about the sunglasses but...

Circuit city currently has the Northwestern Bell 5.8GHz cordless phone w/ caller ID for $14.99 after mail-in rebate ($34.99 - $20) item # 358074/358084

I'm looking for a cordless as well, but I need more features. Besides Overstock, anywhere good to look?

Just wondering, what other features were you looking for? How much were you looking to spend?
Sometime smartbargains.com has some good deals. If you have a discover card, you could save 8% using this link. Here's Smartbargain.com's deals on cordless phones.

I want a dual handset, although three would be even better if available. No answering machine, but a keypad with speakerphone on the base, handset speakerphones on each unit and caller ID are my required features. I really like the Uniden 5685-2 which is a great value (around $80-$90 refurbished) but I'd like to even spend a little less, even if it were a 2.4. Uniden is my brand of choice. Frequency dosen't really matter to me, 5.8 would be nice. Thanks penpen.

Say Erik, did you mean the Uniden TRU5865-2 ?

I'll look around & see what I can find :D

Yeah, that's the one. Thanks a ton.

The 5885 refurb is all over the place but I really would like to get the one without the answering machine. Having a feature that's never going to be used is a pet peeve of mine.

Yeah, I know what you mean about having a feature you'll never use. But what if the 5885-2 was significantly less than the 5865-2? Ecost is selling the uniden tru5885-2 (refurbished) for $49.99 (w/ free ground shipping. tax not included). It seems to be a comparable model, with the exception of having the ans. machine. Maybe you could just ignore it for that price  ? ps right now, ecost has 24 left, and the sale will end in about 68 hrs (Ecost Part # 2148586).

No kidding, I didn't know they had it for that cheap! Is there a chance the price would drop lower on eCOST or is that about as low as it gets?

Tough to say if the price will change, either down or up. I've only bought a couple times before from Ecost and it doesn't seem like their prices really change over time. But I've never closely monitored the site for that before either.
Funny, I just checked the ecost uniden 5885-2 phone again, and there are now 29 available, and there's still 69 hours available left for this sale (that's around the same amt of time left in this sale that I saw last night). I do think that for all the features you are looking for, and considering this one is around $30 less than the 5865-2 refurb & plus free shipping, it doesn't sound bad! Also, comparing the prices for the 5885-2 through pricegrabber, looks like the next cheapest is around $99 for a refurb 5885-2 thru tigerdirect. Although, ecost usually charges around $4 or $5 dollars as a "handling" fee, and you may have to pay tax, I still think you're getting a good deal here. Whaddya think?

Yeah, pretty good indeed. Let me see if they sell a third handset for it at a good price. If I could knock out all three, that would be great.

That's the other thing about the Uniden tru5865-2 - according to the Uniden website, it only has 1 handset expandability (max 2 per system). The Uniden site doesn't mention that as a limitation for the tru5885-2. So you'd probably be better off not getting the tru5865-2.

PS Outpost.com currently has the Uniden refurb 5885-2 on sale for $69.99 (plus shipping & tax). Fry's (instore) has the refurb Uniden TRU-5860 Base unit phone on sale for $29.99 <--but I think I recall that there are no Fry's stores near you, so sorry, never mind. :(

Oh man, that fry's base unit phone was the wrong phone anyway. Just saw your post...I'm looking and I'll let you know what I can find. :D

Sigh, penpen, you're better at this if you found that deal. Could you see if you can find me something for one TXC580 additional handset for it? If I could get both units for under $100, I'd do it.

OK, just started looking, and came across the TXC580 "like new" on uniden site for $45 (w/ 90 day service warranty only.) Plus shipping. For that price, and I know this sounds silly, but you might as well buy two of those phones from Ecost, keep the handset, and sell the other phone. LOL I'll keep looking.

Good point. I could sell the 5885.

Thanks a ton.

Would that additional handset work w/ your 5885-2? I was kinda kidding :clown:, but figure you're technically proficient enough to know if it would work or not. :D

Just in case, the Uniden website is selling a new txc580 for $59.00 (comes w/ a one year mfr warranty), plus looks like you could get $5 for writing a review for pricegrabber. But w/ this, the total would come out to be over the $100 limit you mentioned. So, I'm hoping that buying the two 5885-2's would work out for ya. :D

I think it would. To me, the extra handset is the standard TXC580 as it looks to me. Maybe I'll call Uniden to verify, but you actually brought up a really good point. The base 5885 has the capability to expand beyond two handsets, so I would imagine that a handset coming out of a 5885-2 box would be compatible with an existing 5885. I'll call just to make sure though.

It would be great if it did work. I checked several sites, and it seems the least expensive place to buy the txc580 is Uniden (unusual for it to be cheapest from the manufacturer themselves)! Other places sell this add'l handset for $70 to $80! Even if you kept that other phone or sold it, it still would come out to be less to buy two 5885-2's. Go figure. You probably already have this but here's the Uniden customer service info.

Ebay currently has a couple of the "like new" txc580's on auction. Personally, I dislike Ebay, and avoid it like the plague. Especially when it comes to buying electronic stuff, it can be so hit or miss. I'd rather buy it "like new" from the mfr for a few dollars more (& get the 90 day service warranty) than buy it from Ebay. But just in case you felt more confident about Ebay, just thought I'd mention it.

Great, thanks so much. Let me deal with it tomorrow and I'll let you know what I find.
