filing with taxact is free if you are just doing federal. after you do the federal then just go to your states website and you can file those for free too and avoid the 12 dollar charge.

Wow thanks ribbz!!! I usually try to find one for free state.. and I never thought to goto my states site. I (MI) can file for free with TurboTax at www.taxfreedom.com

You qualify for a free state filing, too, if you are filing in a state that sponsors a Free File Program. Free File Program states include:
AL, AR, AZ, GA, ID, IA, KY, MA, MI, MN, MO, MS, NY, ND, NC, OK, OR, RI, SC, VT, WV

Also have AGI less than $30,000, OR Active Duty and AGI less than $56,000, OR eligible for Earned Income Tax Credit.

This is a fraud. I call them and was told they are not offering this.

You can file Federal for free through IRS Free File. You just put in your info (age, state, income, etc.) and the site will generate a list of the companies that will allow you to file for free. The only catch is that the maximum AGI is $56,000.

I file my state for free through the PA Department of Revenue website.
