Miami Holds Top Spot on Rude Driver List
By SARAH LARIMER, Associated Press Writer

MIAMI - For the second straight year, rude Miami drivers have earned the city the title of worst road rage in a survey released Tuesday.

Miami motorists said they saw other drivers slam on their brakes, run red lights and talk on cell phones, according to AutoVantage, a Connecticut-based automobile membership club offering travel services and roadside assistance.

Other cities near the top of the rude drivers list were New York, Boston, Los Angeles and Washington, D.C.

South Miami resident Erik Pinto told The Associated Press he's probably seen every bad driving habit on Miami's roads.

"You don't want to know what I've seen," Pinto said. "I've seen everything. I'm from L.A., and we don't see the crazy drivers that you see here."

Portland, Ore., drivers were the least likely of the cities to see other motorists tailgating on the roadways, and St. Louis motorists were the least likely to swear at another driver, the survey found.

Minneapolis-St. Paul was rated the most courteous city in 2006 but slipped to the middle of the list this year.

The most frequent cause of road rage cited in the survey was impatient motorists. Drivers also cited poor driving in fast lanes and driving while stressed, frustrated or angry.

"The best piece of advice is to take a deep breath. Slow down, be aware and be careful," AutoVantage spokesman Todd Smith said, adding the aim of the survey is to increase driver safety across the nation.

More than 2,500 drivers who regularly commute in 25 major metropolitan areas were asked to rate road rage and rude driving in telephone surveys between January and March. The survey was conducted by Prince Market Research has a margin of error of plus or minus 2 percentage points.

Miami is so high because there are so many New Yorkers there!

There are so few true 'Miami-ers', they mostly are transplated/snow bunny New Yorkers!

At least they didn't publish my name;)

I am originally from Michigan, probably 25 miles from Detroit and Detroit drivers are just horrible.Seriously.If you look at another driver wrong, they get a serious case of road rage...and will try and inflict harm to you and your passengers.Oakland County ,Michigan drivers are just as bad.Nothing against anyone from Michigan. It is how it is.I am glad we moved to Kissimmee where they are not as bad as the Orlando ones.I-4 is very scary.

i drive through tampa often and i dont see whats so bad about the drivers there. of course ive only driven in florida so maybe we are all bad and i just dont notice it because im doing the same thing:bigok:

Tampa isn't nearly as bad as it was 10-12 years ago. Tampa's main problem is inadequate roads.
Orlando's main problem is that 50% of the traffic is tourists. They're tired, lost and have a car full of people whining/yelling/moaning for them to do something.
Miami traffic can be mastered with two simple rules:
1) You no longer use your brakes, use your horn instead.
2) Don't flinch. He who hesitates is sitting on the shoulder of the road and can't get back into traffic.

yeah, i hate driving in orlando. they are not so much rude as oblivious to everyone else on the road

Dallas is not so innocent to be at #21... I have been in situations where there is a sudden accident and you try to merge over and you get flicked off! ... or the funniest one is when people are on their phones and have almost sideswiped me and I honk to let them know they are about hit me and once again, mr finger comes out!
I can't imagine how miami is.... :-\

omg you nailed it sampler!

Oblivious is what describes Austin... when I used to live there, there were many accidents, not because people were racing,etc... because people just dont pay attention... part of the freeways speed limit is 45 for goodness sake! =p

I live in Kissimmee and have been given the finger by our lovely senior citens.

I can't stand driving in Philly. The best of moods can be ruined because of the rudeness of drivers. I try to be courteous but its impossible because I almost get hit or get beeped at for nothing.
I can't wait to leave

And as for NY drivers...I have to admit, I feel slighted when I get cut off by one and do not get the finger. Its tradition, so all you New Yorkers, please remember to give the finger when you cut people off. Its common courtesy.

and something most people do in all states that drives me insane...talking on their cell phones while driving...can someone please explain to me what is so important? please just shut up and drive!

Can't believe they didn't put Provo, UT as #1. I HATE driving there. Most of the problem is college students.

Lucky numer 13!! I completely agree w/ you about driving in Detroit. If you can drive there you can drive anywhere. Seriously, if you don't drive like a complete a$$hole in Detroit then YOU are the problem.
My grandpa (who grew up in Detroit) used to tell me to just get out there....that the other people would stop. I was also told to always give space in between cars in case you have to get out of that sitaution fast. I'm sure that applies anywhere though.
