TSA confiscates folding car key, calling it a "switchbalde"

http://www.securityinfowatch.com/article/article.jsp?siteSection=387&id=4568

Below is just a quote from the news:

"The Transportation Security Administration confiscated this man's folding Audi car key ($300 replacement cost) at Dallas/Ft. Worth. They claimed it was a 'switchblade.' If he hadn't had a spare key, he would have been stuck upon arriving with no car keys."

OK, somewhere the line has to be drawn. Are my regular car keys next? My car key is certainly long enough to puncture the jugular artery in someones neck. And guess what? It too kind of looks like a saw. It's got some serrated edges. I don't even want to get started on this one...

not that i think the TSA is right on this one, but all it would take is a couple of terrorists with a couple of car keys to take over an airplane, and if someone i loved happened to be on that particular plane, i'd be upset that the keys hadn't been confiscated...

on the other hand, just like with any weapons... if you let everyone carry car keys and they're NOT afraid to use them, then they could take back that airplane...

oh and for the record----
gun control is being able to hit your target ;)

anything can be used as a weapon even a pen - maybe if the airlines didnt lose so much luggage we could check everything in and not worry about little petty things like this. sounds like someone just wanted to be a butthead.

I cannot tolerate the title anymore. "Switchbalde" sounds like a ninja or something. :)

Is it a Ford key? My dad has a 2000 Ford F-150, and that key is huge

No, it's a Kia. But any key can do damage to someone.

so can womens nails , specially when they are long .
I can just imagine the TSA making women cut their nails before a flight

Sheesh, I am surprised we all aren't forced into straight jackets and then everyone is belted to their seats before takeoff.

naw, that's reserved for the really obnoxious children and the drunks LOL

I just went through numerous airport checks with a small screwdriver. I reported it all but once but every time it was okay.

wow.. i guess the tsa thinks its impossible to stab someone with a screwdriver right? :zip:

(thats not a target post, theres something wrong with their logic)

I don't think the TSA thinks things through all of the time

LOL

TSA website said they are allowed. But one airport has a sign saying nope.
