Union Pacific 4-8-4 No. 844 is going on the road later this month

OMAHA - Union Pacific's 4-8-4, No. 844, will begin a 35-day, 10-state tour
celebrating the railroad's history and heritage beginning April 27, the
railroad announced today.

The South Central States Heritage Express Tour will leave Cheyenne, Wyo. and
travel to Denver with overnight stops in Denver; Sharon Springs, Salina,
Herington and Pratt, Kans.; Guymon and Claremore, Okla.; Alamogordo, N.M.;
Dalhart, El Paso, Alpine, Del Rio, San Antonio, Austin, Palestine and
Marshall, Texas; Kansas City, Mo.; North Little Rock and Russellville, Ark;
and Fairbury and North Platte, Neb., before arriving back to its home base
in Cheyenne on June 1.

A Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) transmitter has been installed on one
of the cars that will travel with No. 844. The GPS system will be integrated
with a map on UP's Web site beginning the first day of the trip. Go to
www.up.com and enter the word "Steam" in the search box on the homepage for
a shortcut to the map.

UP Web site visitors will be able to access route maps with varying amounts
of detail. The GPS system will update the map every five minutes showing the
train's location.
