Will this work if you extend your current service plan? I already have Verizon but recently lost my cell phone and am using a hand-me-down p.o.s. :)

seems like a great deal, but getting tied up on a new contract is the bad part. i use t-mobile, i don't think verizon is any better.

I bought the treo 700P for $99

with a contract from a seller on ebay. They shipped the phone the next day and they bill me on my first bill. They also have the treo 650 for free with contract. No rebates and a much better deal

All of the $150 Amazon.com rebates (including this one) only apply to new activations/service plans. If you get a family plan the rebate ONLY applies to the first/primary phone.

You have to get the $45 data plan (in addition to your voice plan) during check out for this phone. And this option seems like the one we cannot shake off. Someway to make money, I guess. Disappointed by the trick. Otherwise, it would have been a great deal.

can always dump the data plan after the phone arrives

unless you live in a huge city verizon is far superior in terms of coverage and customer service to tmobile. only advantage they have is gsm which offers better quality and ability to roam internationally--however so does cingular (except tmobile is cheaper for intl. roaming)

in any case here in conn tmobile is awful. my friend constantly has full service and his calls dont come in, service busy noises all the time...basically tmobile has all these mall kiosks employed by college dropouts that follow you around the mall into the parking lot until you sign a contract

The problem with this is that Verizon's data plan is way over priced. The comment that you can always buy the data plan during checkout and then later drop it would work if this wasn't a Treo 650. Why buy a Treo 650 without the data plan? It doesn't make much sense to me to by a phone with such capabilities if you don't plan on using them. I have a Treo 650 and I absolutely love it, but the main reason that I love it is because I can get my email and calendar updates from anywhere.

Bottom Line - Verizon's data plan is way too expensive. Go with Sprint if you want the Treo 650. I'm not the hugest fan of Sprint as a phone service, but their data plan is by far the cheapest at only $15/month for unlimited web/email/IM. The amount that you would be saving on monthly service over a 2 year contract would more than make up for the cost of the phone.
