Okay, I want to go to Disneyland tomorrow and I hate crowds so now I am wondering how many people have the day off and how many schools are observing the holiday. Since it's a federal holiday I am assuming that the post office and public schools are closed... Anyone have more info on the subject?

I know that all public schools in the Orange School District are off, from K-12, and most Private schools in the OC. Hope that helps!

Public Schools in Ventura County are off!!!

But my son's Church pre-school is in session...

I bet Disney will be nice and crowded...I say pull the kids out of school during a regular day and go have fun!!!

Yikes! That's what I thought. But I wonder if people would wait to go to Disneyland for the Thanksgiving Holiday instead.
Oy! Decisions...

I don't have kids, but I have the day off (government), and my wife has to work (private sector).

Our area schools used to have Veteran's Day off. This year we don't. Very strange. :sus: :hmm:

When I taught in Naperville, the school district "petitioned" the state to waive the Veteran's Day holiday off from school. The reasoning is that we needed to be in school to teach the children the value of our military and the service they did for us.

The only "Veteran's Day" activity that occurred was a reading of a description of the history of Veteran's Day over the intercom at announcements, a flag ceremony with only the student council and two local vets and then two trumpets played taps during 9th hour announcements.

IMHO: It's not enough to pay honor to those who served in our country nor is it enough to teach our children the value of the veterans' service.

I ponder if the difference is that nearly everyone served in my father's, grandfather's, uncle's generations (WWI, WWII, Korean War). That is just what the young men did. Now, it seems a little more rare to know someone who is serving in the military.

Last year, we went to Disney about a week and a half before Christmas. It was just after they have a big cheerleading (Pop Warner National Championships) thing down there and just before the schools would get off for Winter Vacation. The timing was awesome! There was hardly anyone there. The longest we had to wait to get on a ride was about 5 minutes. I would highly recommend that time period! We took our Christmas pictures by the Christmas trees they have all over. We wrote our cards by the pool, included the pictures and sent them out from Florida. It was the best thing we did as a family to relax before the holiday!

My brother says that the best time to go is in late January, early February. He has gone then and says it's pretty empty during that time too.

I hope that's the case. :bigok: That's exactly when we're going on the Disney Cruise and staying a couple days at the parks.

we usually hit disneyland weekdays in early december- minimal crowds, but you still get all the christmas stuff going on.

and the kids are off today. i imagine d-land will be packed. not just w/ families, but local kids who've got annual passes and nothing to do

Im in High School in Owensboro, KY and we didn't get off for Vet's Day

even in busy times of the year, you can escape some of the crowds by going right after it rains, provided it stops raining :D

usually right after a downpour everyone leaves to the parking lot, hotels or for home. thats when the lines are the shortest.

So we decided to give it a try on Veteran's Day and couldn't even get a parking spot in their HUGE structure. So we left. I have a feeling it was REALLY crowded.

I'm going to take your advice and go on a weekday about a week or so before Christmas and/or January. I hear SuperBowl is the slowest day of the year. Since I don't watch it, it's an option. Thanks to all! :)
:claps:
