Viking 128mb Compact Flash Card for $5.99 Shipped After Rebate

Buy.com has the Viking 128mb compact flash card for only $5.99 shipped after rebate. The rebate is not advertised was found in WheresMyRebate.

Update : A member has reported that the $20 rebate is an error and Vikings customer support stated that it will not be honored. Please send the $10 rebate to get the product for $15.99 or please cancel your order here. We apologize for the inconvenience.

1. Buy.com Price : $25.99
2. Rebate Price : -$20.00
- Click Search current rebate promotions
- Enter promotion number 19379
Final Price : $5.99

Note - $20 rebate is invalid on 128MB CF card

NOTE....!

I just talked with Viking Components' Customer Service Department. They told me that the $20 rebate would NOT be honored on any of the products EXCEPT for the 128MB SD card. The only valid rebate on the CF memory is a $10 rebate.

They told me that WheresMyRebate.com incorrectly listed the $20 rebate, and that they would not honor it. They said the $20 rebate was valid for June only, but that WheresMyRebate.com shows the $20 rebate in error.

I hope that helps.

Thanks for the information krar4, I made a note on the front page.

Well, last Wednesday I ordered 3 of these. They are in sent to werehouse stage. I printed the rebate form as well. How did you get thru to Viking? I just keep getting bounced to the operator! Without the $20 this is not a deal, and the $10 off is 1 per receipt!.

Any way to ask wheresmyrebates what they will do?

Also, doesn't Amazon show the $20 rebate on their site?

I contacted Viking Components at:

(800) 845-8777

They knew about the error, but they thought that it had already been corrected at WheresMyRebate.com.

They still said that any of the $20 rebates for the 128MB CF cards would NOT be honored. At that point, I'd cancel your 3 orders if it's not a deal for you.

Rick

Thanks Rick. I wonder how wheresmyrebate would get out of it?

I also called with the same results. It was never supposed to extend past June and then was only for ONE SD card, not CF! Viking will NOT honor it.

MPSAN,

WheresMyRebate.com would get out of it very easily. They would NOT send you a check for $20. With that, they're out of it.

Rick

I agree. They would just say they were not responsible for typo's on their site. However, Viking did say that they were aware of this for a while and have still not changed it!

When I read this, I got worried about the $20 CF rebate I sent back in June, so I looked at wheresmyrebate.com and saw that my Viking $20 CF rebate showed a status of "Approved".

I guess I'm unclear if people are saying all $20 CF rebates are invalid or only ones that extended past the end of June?

Does this mean that any time I ever see a rebate form anywhere I'm supposed to call up the manufacturer to make sure it's valid? If that's going to be the case then I might as well pretend all rebates don't exist and not buy anyone's products based on rebate offers. I love how 100% of the responsibility is always on the end user and never on anyone else whose job it is to create and sell the product.

If the rebate gets denied from Buy.com, then I will certainly complain at Buy.com whom I'm already mad at for never shipping a Lexar drive I had ordered (with a coupon) while a rebate was valid, so once I saw it was passed the rebate expiration and it hadn't shipped I tried to cancel the order which took over a week. First they canceled my $5 off coupon so that if it shipped I would get charged more and finally cancelled the item later.

I looked high and low on their web site for a phone number to call Buy (they used to have a toll free number) and couldn't find one. The old 800 number didn't work. Then I sent an email and their 24 hour response time took about 4 days and the email only answered some of my questions -- there was no answer to my question if they had a phone number to reach them. Does anyone know how to contact a human being at Buy if I need to or have they discontinued all phone service?

Viking won't accept my rebate from Amazon

The last time this deal came around it was from Amazon. I bought the 128MB CF and sent in the form with all required. They keep telling me I didn't send in the UPC code when I did originally and keep faxing it to them. Last time I will buy a Viking product.

As I was saying. Seems like a lot of folks to blame on this (and they'll all pass the buck), but, when Buy.com is involved, look for an avenue of screwedness on any deal.
