Walmart - Playstation3 40GB /w Bonus $100 Gift Card for $399.00

That's a pretty good deal. I was going to wait until the 80 GB version came back out, this might change my mind though

edit: I wonder if besbuy would match this offer.

I'm guessing the catch is that the gift card can't be used with this order and cannot be used at a walmart store, just online.

Still a good deal..

It is also in next week add, except for there it is a 100$ card for blue ray dvd's

and no bestbuy will not match this.

Remember that the Playstation3 40GB model is not backwards compatible with the PS2 games. Which is a major drawback for those with a bunch of classic ps titles...
That said, the PS3 still rocks !

i didn't think that was possible...

I live in Glendale, California, the 3rd largest city in Los Angeles county. The city does not allow Walmart to come in because it would bring in many lower-class shoppers. Really that is what the city council said. The nearest Walmart from me is 15 miles away in Rosemead.

15 miles is considered "not near?"

It is when you consider the cost of gas now!

In any case, this is a great bargain if you're looking for a futureproof Blu-ray player and all-around media hub and gaming machine. No PS2 backwards compatibility is a minor loss, especially if you're one of the 120+ million people who already have a PS2.

True, but at least it is backward compatible with PS1 games. This console isn't meant for those with a PS2 game library, if you have those games, spend the extra $100. Besides the new bundle coming out really soon, it comes with a game that will retail for $60 itself. If you want a Bluray player and everything else is just nice, the 40GB is the way to go though.

I think its a pretty decent deal. Its such a hassle to apply a credit card and ruin your credit score through sonystyle. Plus you have to pay shipping and tax. As for the other concerns, the 80gb is only good for about 50% of the ps2 games. The extra usb and memory stuff, you can easily use your computer USB hub or ur 15-in-1 flash reader. Hard drive can also be upgraded. Personally I think the 80gb is worth the extra $100, but I doubt u'll be able to get away without buying it with bundles.

I ended up using the $100 gift immediately for another controller, eye, blue-ray remote and component wires. If you truely want PS2 emulation, you're better off buying the older 60gb version from ebay or something. But just so u know, the older version is noisy and not as powerful cpu-wise and wifi.

In Los Angeles, a 15 mile drive in any direction will take at least an hour. And Walmarts are not allowed to be open 24-hours because of city ordinances. Don't want to disturb the neighbors. Can't go shopping in the middle of the night when there's no traffic. Yea, LA sucks. That's why I don't live there any more.

How will the sony card ruin your credit? By the way, this deal is going to start at wal-mart stores tomorrow if no one wants to wait to get it online.

I just checked my local store and they are having this deal as well starting 12.01pm tonight. The gift card you get is just a regular gift card.

the Wal-marts in the san diego area are offering this deal tomorrow but you get a Blu-Ray giftcard instead of a wal-mart giftcard. Is this true everywhere, I want to do this but want the walmart card! Let me know if its the same for everyone else.

ok its 2am pacific time and the walmart website, if you click "electronics" now shows the PS3 at 128.86. It also still has the info. about the giftcard. If you click on the link it says it is sold out. But how in the world did the price for it get changed to this low, obviously a fluke...but very wierd. I took pictures, maybe i can get false advertising :)
