Nope... didn't spell it wrong ("girl")... we're looking for a grill, but we don't even know where to start!

So... we're getting a deck built on the back of our house. Originally I was going to give my husband a grill because he was going to build it himself. Yeah... he's not anymore. So... I am going to give him a grill for father's day instead.

So... what do you look for in a grill? I took him to home depot last night under the guise that we were going to look for patio furniture and I steered him by the grills as well. He didn't know which one he would buy. The only things that he pointed out that he liked were the ones that had electric starts, a cabinet underneath so the kids won't get at the tank and the ones that had "trays" on either side of the grill. Yeah... there's a lot of those...

Which brands are decent? Does anyone LOVE their grill?

HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ... please! :-)

I prefer a grill that comes with a side burner, and it's nice also if it comes with a chef.

The cabinet sounds nice, but I've never had one and I've never had any trouble w/the boys wanting to get to the tank. I had one w/a sideburner like dbee said. I thought it would be a nice feature too. Turns out I never used it in five years. The one I have now has a porcaline (sp?) rack instead of the wire grates and I like it much better. But I think most of them do now. Just remember not to use a wire brush or it'll scratch the finish.

My big look for thing is the top rack. My last grill had a really big one. It stuck out far and made it difficult to flip or access the stuff that was grilling underneath it, (on the back 1/2 of the actual grill surface).

Most of them all have electric start now too. Mine busted and I have to light if from the side anyway.

Good luck!

i agree with cybermom, the side burner was something i wanted and have yet to use (in 3 years). i looked for a large one, though, because we often entertain big groups. the top rack isn't a problem for me, because i can remove it, but it's a good place to put food that you want to keep warm.

also, check for clearance items. there's no reason to pay full price!!

Call me crazy, but (:p) I like my grill to cook my food. I know I know...that's fancy talk. LOL Geesh that sarcasm is just from drinking water...lol.

I wanted a side burner as well, but I never use it.
Mine has a top rack that is removable. Thank goodness because it really does get in the way.
Good luck!!

Most likely...that would be me.

He really wants a grill. I think he thinks it's "manly". But you know who's going to me cooking on it... ME! That's okay... I won't be getting all hot in the kitchen then...

BTW: I wish I had a removable rack...

(feeling a little quirky today... I just ate a really big carrot.)

hmmm... eating big carrots??

i saw a female comedian once who talked about having different sized boobs for different occasions... like the small, perky type for exercising, but big ones for when you have to get your car worked on

Suggest you check your public library for the June 2008 Consumer Reports -- they've got a rundown on current models of grills, and things to consider when purchasing.

But by no means buy a Broil King Signet 90. That model melted under normal use. (not something you want in a grill)

Monk, the avatar is GREAT!

Ok...slow down everyone....this is not rocket science (though it may be if you buy that Signet grill)...she just wants a basic grill.

If you want a name go with [ Weber ] , if you want a good grill at a good price, just check out the selection at your local big box home improvement store.

Pick one that fits your budget and has features you think you might use (I buy ones with side burners (never have used a side burner. but is there "just in case I want to boil corn" <- this quote is from the 'Boss of the house')

Keep an eye out for the ads as the box stores offer free assembly, free tank of gas, dollars off....

Stop over thinking this.

The only thing I look for in a grill is a nicely done steak or burger. :p

Anyone own a Ducane?

Turns out that Weber owns Ducane. Weber is made in Palatine, IL. Ducane is made in China.

Thinking about closing the deal this weekend if there is a good sale.

One more thing... do I (*ahem* "we") need a rotisserie? I'm intrigued!
