Monarch butterflies. Just disturbing them is a $1000 fine.

City name: Thousand Oaks

Destroying an Oak Tree costs thousands $$ and can include jail time...
Entire developments are built around standing Oak Trees (as they should)

Baseball Bats
Kentucky Derby
Cassius Clay
Great Basketball Teams
G.E. Appliances
Ford Trucks
Thats all I can think of...

Recently...

Wheaton, Illinois

Home of Wheaton College & C.S. Lewis' Grandfather's Wardrobe (the one thought to have inspired the idea of the Lion, the Witch & the Wardrobe)

While it's not confirmed by C.S. Lewis himself, his brother is documented as saying that this was the wardrobe he and his brother would play in/tell stories to each other in when they were children.

Oh... and John & Jim Belushi grew up here.

How about we start saying which city we live in? lol

Anaheim is famous for its sports teams, the Ducks and the Angels!

houston : enron, oil, astrodome, chopped and screw, beyonce

We have many towns in our area but it's all called The Pocono Mountains. We are famous for Honeymoon resorts, skiing, fall foliage...tourist stuff etc...

Lets see...We got OJ Simpson, Timothy McVeigh, John Bobbitt (actually lived around the corner from us), the Lackawanna 7 (terrorists). Just think of something bad and that's the area in which I reside. :o

I live in Huntsville, Alabama and we are famous for:

The US Space and Rocket Center
Take 6 (Famous Christian Group)
Bo Bice (I really did not want to go there but not much here.... lol )
Larry Byrom (Famous guitarists for Steppenwolf)
The group Alabama

That is all I can think of right now.

Lowville Ny....

famous for, The world famous Llyod's of Lowville a small diner where I work, famous for...I have no idea BUT people from all over NY know of the place, plus we have a $10,000 giant cow with $300 sun-glasses. Gotta love red-necks!

I hate to brag, but ..

We here in Lawrence are proud to be known as the auto insurance fraud capital of the nation.

Or perhaps the world, who knows?

It's fun to look for your city or state & 'stupid laws'.

Here are some from Kansas:

* Rabbits may not be shot from motorboats.

* No one may catch fish with his bare hands.

* The state game rule prohibits the use of mules to hunt ducks.

* If two trains meet on the same track, neither shall proceed until the other has passed.

How do you find those laws?

Those are great! I bet my stupid city has some really dumb ones. Do you mind if I ask how did you find yours?

Thanks!

Being from Long Island, I never heard of Llyod's of Lowville....

And yet again, I spent 2yrs up in Canton Ny, so that's upstate???

Where in NY is L of L? Sounds like a North Country place!

I've lived in NY all my life and have spent much time 'updstate'. Never heard of the diner, Lloyd's of Lowville nor the 10k cow with the $300 glasses.

Heck, if your boss can buy a 10k cow and give him $300 glasses, ask him for a raise

I used to live in that area and I could add more to that list, like the Bills losing four straight Super Bowls. On the positive side, Buffalo has the best pizza anywhere (and that inludes Chicago and NYC).

Here in Charlotte:

Bank of America/Wachovia (Charlotte is number 2 in banking in the US).
Carolina Panthers
Carolina Panthers Cheerleaders
BBQ
NASCAR
Northern Transplants
Traffic
Destruction of trees for the sake of growth
Clay Aiken (was attending UNC Charlotte when he was on American Idol though he is from Raleigh)

Oh, I'm sure there'e more, but that's a start.
