Microsoft announced that they will be lowering the price of their Xbox 360 HD DVD player from $199 to $179 and also add five free HD DVDs.

If you are thinking of buying an HD DVD player, hold on a few more days.

Thanks for the tip. I want the heroes DVD's when available at the end of August and I have been trying to decide which method of HD-DVD format to go with. Heroes will not be available in the Blue-Ray format. Samsung will have a combo-player in the fall (November) for over $1000. I don't have an Xbox but I'm thinking, why not buy the whole set and get video games in HD as well as HD-DVD? How much are we talking here?

Hey ElectricPickle, you can plug this HD-DVD drive directly into your computer through USB and windows update will find the drivers for you (Microsoft made it after all) the only thing you need to worry about is if your video card and monitor are HDCP compliant (if it's a newer it probably is) so you can get the full resolution. Also this drive won't play games, only the internal drive on the 360 does that, this one only plays movies.

Hmmm. That's good to know and would be great with a home theater PC. I would rather watch HD on my large-screen TV rather than my small screen PC monitor. It's good to know that you don't need the Xbox to use the drive. Thanks.
