Does anyone know where I can get ZoneAlarm Pro 5 at a reasonable price?
:D

I will definately look around to see what I can find.

A suggestion for you though, are you running Windows XP SP2? If so the built in firewall is all you would really need. I know I was having some compatibilty problems running Zone Alarm on Windows XP.

Also I case you did not know, Zone Alarm (not PRO) is free from the Zone Labs website

I have SP2 installed unfortunately, not sure why. I did however disable ALL of that security junk they included. I have a router upstairs so I use that as a hardware firewall, and it seems to be what I need. If you have a network, keep in mind that your router most likely functions as a NAT firewall, which gives you hardware protection which is generally better than software protection.

I am running XP. I will check if I have SP2. Thanks for your help. And yes, I was looking at the Pro version.

Thanks for the info. I need to check on the SP2 when I get home. I do have a network so I will check on that too.

If you don't have it installed, I'd highly recommend not contaminating your system with it. :)

I had problems at first with Windows Xp SP2, but now it is working like a champ. The built in pop-up stopper works great also.

What kind of problems are you having with it. I know that I was having alot of problems with it when I had Firefox installed.

If you have a router, I would not waste money on a software firewall. Even if you do not install SP2 you can still just use the router firewall and the XP built in firewall.

Agreed. I personally rely only on my hardware firewall.

A hardware firewall isn't going to stop an outbound connection from your machine. If that is all you rely upon, you're only getting half the protection.

I wouldn't even rely on the firewall in Windows XP since it blocks inbound, but not outbound, connections. SP2 is fine really. The trick is to install it on a clean machine, otherwise it will cause many problems. I've installed SP2 on dozens of machines at my work, but will only do it after running Ad-Aware, Spybot S&D, and anti-virus software (and running through well over a 50-point process) to get rid of the junk. Never had any problems or complaints.

Okay, I am on XP with SP2. I have been running Ad-Aware and McAfee. Everything is running fine. I have a router for some firewall pretection too. I wanted to add the ZoneAlarm Pro 5, but I guess maybe I shouldn't. Is there any other software that performs the same that would work with XP SP2?
Thanks again everyone!

i'm running xp2 w/zone alarm pro and have had no problems thus far (knock on wood). as others have already suggested, DO NOT use xp's firewall... there's plenty of documentation that proves it is extremely unreliable and faulty.

my suggestion to you: switch to pest patrol for ad blockage. xp2 has one built in as well, but it doesn't scan for spyware and parasites. you can run pest patrol every few days rather than having it start up w/yr system - you'll save a lot of memory this way. if yr happy w/ad aware, then i suggest doing the same thing in re: to running it manually rather than automatically @ start-up. in addition to one less process, you'll avoid ongoing conflicts too.

zone alarm pro shouldn't conflict w/mcafee. i run NAV in conjunction w/it with no problems (again - knock on wood).

let me know if yr still interested in getting the program... i can probably help you out.

That's why I make sure all my PCs are always kept clean so I don't have to worry about outbound suspicious connections. :D
