I purchased the Dell E1705 notebook (17" screen) and I'm looking for a good laptop bag/backpack that I can use for school. I'm not looking for a case so much as a backpack that will protect my notebook when I take it to class. I was thinking of just getting a decent backpack ($30) and buying one of those padded sleeves from ebags ($20), but if anyone knows a better deal (<$50?), or has a recommendation on a combo backpack/notebook bag that worked for their 17" notebook please let me know. I'd even thank you ;)

I've been using an LL Bean bag for years. When I switched to a wide screen laptop, and had to put the computer in sideways, but I basically love the backpack.

I don't see the one I own on their website any more, but it looks like the Super Shockwave Pack is the current generation of the same thing.

I'll check it out, thanks!

I personaly have a mac, so most of the cases made for my computer wouldnt fit the big ol'dells. but you could check the measurements.

I did a search on shopzilla and found some general laptop cases:

Mac cases - measure yours to see if they would fit:

We have a 17" widescreen Dell XPS. We finally found a good bag for it from Buy.com. Kensington Contour Pro 17" Carrying Case. It has a pull out pc sleeve if you don't want to carry the whole bag around. Everything is very padded too. Seems perfect.

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions!

Staples has a good bag, although it's a briefcase style, for $40. It's leather-imitation and has about 800,000,000 different pockets and places for paper, notepads, etc. I've used one at work for 2 years and at home for 4 months and they're just plain awesome. It's one of the only bags that my laptop would fit in. I don't have a SKU at the moment - PM me if you'd like me to find it for you.
