My name is not on the list, but my Dad's is; Jerry!
Only 58 days left!

STAY AWAY HURRICANCES!!!!

No, but my nephew's is. They have no idea how accurate that is!

They ran through the list, and used Alpha, Beta, etc.

The national Hurricane Center publishes the list of names for each season. It's a new list each year. Names are rotated and reused, unless it makes landfall. Then the name is retired.

It's a six-year cycle until this year's list comes back again.

They have Wilma and Frederic, but no Barney or Betty. Must not be Flintstones fans.

I remember a Betty in the Gulf of Mexico many years ago.

If hurricanes and their history are of interest to you, I recommend this site:
http://www.geocities.com/hurricanene/hurr1938.htm

It is about the Great Hurricane of 1938 that hit NY, RI, & CT.
Be sure to check out the before & after pic of the coast line that was full of houses and then completely wiped clean - not even a trace of rubble. Many were swept away and never seen again.

In terms of fatalities and property damage - the 1938 hurricane stands as one of the worst disasters in North American history. In a matter of hours, 688 people were killed, 4500 were injured, and more than 75,000 buildings were damaged. The states of New York, Connecticut, and Rhode Island, suffered their worst natural disaster in recorded history. The tidal wave like storm-surge that hit Long Island and Rhode Island was so severe - that earthquake instruments 3,000-miles away recorded it on seismographs. As a final cruelty - the residents of the North Atlantic states had little or no warning that this extreme meteorological event was unfolding before them.
