2gb online storage free from Dropbox. Access your files from anywhere.

Dropbox is a pretty neat, easy and secure way to share files from and to your computers, phones and other devices.

https://www.dropbox.com

When installed to your PC the program creates a dropbox folder in your My Documents area. Simply drag and drop files that you want access to. Once the files are in the DropBox folder they are automatically uploaded to an online storage space. From there they can be Viewed and downloaded from anywhere with almost any device, Just use the DropBox program on a computer, the app on a phone or tablet. Or just by going to the DropBox website on any internet capable device.

This works both ways. In other words, when you use DropBox on your phone or device not only can you retrieve the files, but you can add files (or photos) to the DropBox. Once you add a file and upload it. The file is instantly accessible in your DropBox ready to share.

-Of course, internet access is necessary.-

And the setup couldn't be much easier. You can use a Google, Facebook or Twitter account to log in. Plus, if you want to share something with a friend. You can send them an invite that temporarily allows access to a chosen file.

The standard free account comes with a 2gb limit on the amount of data your DropBox folder will hold.
Getting more space for free is pretty easy, Once you are signed up they will give you a referral link. Each person that you refer is good for an additional 250mb storage, up to 8gb.

Devices that are supported by the app/program include, PC, Android phone/Tablet, iPhone/iPad, and BlackBerry (Before anyone asks, yes, it even works on a Mac.) ;D. But as mentioned, the program doesn't have to be installed on your device to get to your files. A simple web browser will do it. You can upload and download your files without installing anything.

So far this has been a really useful app for me. It is a great way to move photos, movies and documents around. As well as apps and programs. And as far as I can tell there is no limit to the number of devices per account.

Sorry about the super long post, just thought It'd be easier to skip the "What's this for" part.

One last thought.

The link I posted is generic and not a referral link. My primary motivation is to share. However, if you think that you might like it and want to help me get more storage, I would be equally as grateful as I am shameless. Just shoot me a pm and I will share my link.

Actually this thread might be a great way for a lot of us to get the maximum of 8gb free in a hurry if anyone is interested...

Anyway, I hope that some of you can get some use out of it.

I never thought I would use Dropbox, that was until I left a thumb drive plugged into my server and forgot to take it with me. I set up a Dropbox account on the computer I was at and then remoted into the server to do the same. Within an hour, thankfully, all was synced up. This was the perfect service.

It also works very nicely with Carbonite (or Mozy, or whatever other online backup service floats your boat).
