The Commerce Department’s National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) announced today that seven of the largest consumer electronics retailers -- Best Buy, Circuit City, Kmart, RadioShack, Sam's Club, Sears, Target, Wal-Mart -- have been certified to participate in the TV Converter Box Coupon Program along with more than 100 other retailers, representing more than 14,000 stores throughout the nation, and additional Program details.

Each American household will be able to request up to two coupons worth $40 to facilitate the purchase of digital-analog converter boxes.[2] These requests for coupons may be submitted between the dates January 1, 2008 and March 31, 2009, inclusive.[3] This will hopefully aid in the switch to Digital television.

preclaimed post 2 for links to buy the tuners or whatever

The site is hosed. I get "unexpected error" after hitting the "submit" button.

The freebie one I got from our local TV station turned out to be junk. It would have a strong lock onto a station and the signal would randomly drop. I have high quality RG6, a medium direction antenna that I adjusted by antenna web, and good quality 100Mhz splitters. All of the unused ports in the house are terminated. After talking with a friend we determined the converter box is junk and can't hold the lock to save it's life.

Needless to say I took it out of service and I'm back to analog for now. I'm shopping for a new TV anyway.

Im using comcast analog, so won't have to get any converter box anytime soon.

After I signed up for the coupons it said that the converters wouldn't be available at retailers until late Feb or early March. The coupons will be mailed then AND WILL EXPIRE 90 DAYS FROM ISSUE. Don't order them until you are ready to buy!!!!!!!!
