The “Master Planner” is an Academic Planner designed to offer added value in career and character education. Over 150 careers and 75 character traits are presented on the main week-at-a-glance pages, thus are “in the face” of students on a daily basis. The “meat” (academic tracking of homework and assignments) stays the same; we are simply adding a little “gravy” in the areas of career and character education. Therefore, we believe that there is little risk involved in changing planners and trying something new during the next academic year. Plus, because we really want to get our planner in the hands of students, we will do everything we can to beat the price you paid for your planner last year.
The Master Planner was created by Bob Orndorff, Associate Director of Career Services at Penn State, and Erik Orndorff, Assistant Principal at Pequea Valley Intermediate School near Lancaster Pennsylvania. The main purpose for creating the Master Planner was to get character and career education into the schools without interfering with NCLB standards. Character education and career development are systematically bundled into an already existing resource (academic planner) given to all students, providing an outstanding opportunity for educational leaders to incorporate career development and character education more pervasively.
Our hope is that an educational planner with more substance and a supplementary website with activities will enable teachers, counselors and students to work on character and explore careers at any time of the day (study halls, homerooms, flex time, dead times) without interfering with academic achievement. Along with serving as THE academic organizer, The Master Planner can also serve as THE career and character education resource from which all other related initiatives are generated.
