/20/08 Tulsa QuikTrip 50th Anniversary Free Concert, Fireworks, & More

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

EVENT IS SEPTEMBER 20th!
QuikTrip opened its first store on South Peoria on September 25, 1958. Since that time, our customers in the Tulsa area have been wonderful in their support of our business. Even though we have expanded to other cities over the years, Tulsa is our home.

When we considered how best to celebrate our birthday, our first thoughts were how we could give something back to the Tulsa community. We came up with two ideas. One is funding the renovation of the 41st Street Plaza at River Parks. Chester Cadieux, QuikTrip’s founder, has been a strong supporter of River Parks, so this was a natural choice. And it’s a gift that will continue to provide benefits for many years to come.

The other idea was throwing a party for Tulsa. That’s where the QuikTrip Festival comes in. We wanted music and we wanted fireworks. When we considered musical acts, we felt it important to include bands from the Tulsa area and to cover a number of genres of music. We also have a couple of bands who include QuikTrip employees from our Wichita and Kansas City areas. The fireworks will be spectacular, with almost twice as many fireworks as Tulsa’s annual 4th of July celebration.

We do all of this to thank our customers for believing in us and supporting us for the past 50 years. Come, enjoy and help us celebrate.

Is the festival really free?

Absolutely. Guaranteed. It won't cost you a cent to get a ticket.
So that means I have to get tickets?

Everyone must have a ticket to enter the festival. Tickets are available at all Tulsa area QuikTrip stores beginning September 2nd. This is a blatant attempt to get you to stop by one of our stores and spend lots of money on fountain drinks and sandwiches while you are there getting your tickets! Ask for the tickets at the register. There is a limit of 4 tickets per customer. Since these tickets are free, people attempting to scalp them for more than face value will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the laws of Tripekestan.
Free Concert, Free Fireworks, Kids will also get a free gift at the Kid Zone (while supplies last).

Will there be concessions at the event?

There will be several concession vendors at the event, as well as a concussion vendor for those looking for a blow to the head. There will also be a QuikTrip mobile store. Although it is a mobile store, we promise to keep it stationary during the event so you can return to buy more incredible QuikTrip products.

What will the QuikTrip mobile store be selling?

The mobile store will have fresh QT Kitchens sandwiches, wraps, salads and fruit cups. In addition, they will be selling QuikTrip's Oscar Mayer all beef hot dogs for just 50 cents. Those who wish they were an Oscar Mayer wiener will not be allowed to sell themselves for 50 cents.

Can I bring my own food and drinks?

No, you will need to purchase your food and drinks on the festival grounds. The concessionaires are counting on you to help them make it through the end of the month. And bringing funnel cakes from home doesn't seem to work very well.

Will there be seating available?

The festival grounds is a grassy field. You will need to bring folding or collapsible chairs if you wish to sit, or bring a blanket and sit on the ground. Lay-Z-Boy recliners, dental chairs and fainting couches will not be allowed on the grounds. It may get rather crowded, so you may be sitting close to other guests. Make sure to take a shower and use a reliable deodorant before coming to the festival.

Should I try to park near the Festival Park or take the free shuttle from the Fairgrounds?

There will be limited parking near the Festival Park. You can take your chances, but you may well be forced to drive back to the Fairgrounds and take the free shuttle. Really, the shuttle is free.

Will there be anything for kids to do at the festival?

Kids are welcome, but if they are 12 or under they must be accompanied by an adult or bring an accordion. The Wally Kid Zone will be open throughout the festival, with large inflatable play equipment and other fun activities. There will not be weasel jugglers, Bop-A-Wolverine games or gnu rides as previously announced. The vendor providing these activities was already booked for the Largest Ball of Twine Festival in Cawker City, Kansas.

Kids will also get a free gift at the Kid Zone (while supplies last).

Thanks. We're always looking for local things to do, and I've heard some talk about this, but never any specifics. :claps:
