A little help please.....

Hi guys. I hope it's okay for me to post this here. If not I apologize in advance. I'm trying to get enough votes to win a car. We're a family of five and had our van at a local mechanic's and he claimed it got stolen. Well we found out about a month later that he's sending these cars off to be smashed because he's really bad on drugs, and that may be what happened to our van. The van pictured is my mom's, and her transmission is starting to go bad. I need as many as will to please rate this van a 5 (dumpster) so that we can have something to drive again. You had no insurance on your van?Or how about the mechanic he had no type of business insurance to cover theft???
 
And Have Thepolice Been Notified?
 
Thanks for the votes. My husband had the SR-22 insurance, but it was only liability. We do have a police report on file. We were seeing a van around here like ours, but painted black. The police told us that if we get a chance when no one is in the van to check the vin and give them a call. The only other hope they left us was if the van gets pulled over for whatever reason and they run the vin, it'll come up as stolen. As far as the mechanic, I don't know whether or not he has insurance. I'd heard about him through some other neighbors who said he'd done a good job with their vehicles. When we did go to the police and they asked what his name was, they weren't shocked....turns out he has a reputation with them. They said he used to be a lot worse.
 
I'm not a lawyer, but.......

It seems to me that the mechanic is liable for your loss.
The police asking you to check the VIN is questionable as well.
I would ask a lawyer about the mechanic's liability.
 
I agree with DanC - the mechanic should be liable and the police should be checking the vin number not you. I voted for you though on the website!
 
Yeah. We were advised that we should file suit, the only problem is if we did file and win, which we should beyond any doubt, I don't think he could pay up. He apparently smokes up all his money. He's an independent mechanic, well he and his wife. She says she's been working on cars as long as he. I totally agree about the police checking the vin number. We don't stay in the greatest neighborhood and I don't want to get shot for trying to check a vin and the van may happen to not be ours.

They (the courts) would find a way for him to get you your money,either taking it directly out of his pay every pay period or something.It would take you a while to get all your money back but at least you would still get it and not be at a total loss.Don't risk your life to check vin # that the police are suppose to be doing.I would call the police station back and ask to speak directly to the person in charge and tell them you need them to do their job. Best of luck!

I don't think he has a technical pay period. He's just like a "bootleg mechanic" that fixes cars as they're brought to him. You know like a "neighborhood mechanic." The police don't really seem to be on their posts either. They really make us feel like they could care less. I mean the guy who was filing the report didn't even seem to be up to typing the few words in the computer that he had to. We've gone up to the police station twice and called twice since the incident. No updates. It's just a wait and see thing.

I'm sick to death of police enforcing the laws they want to enforce and making up 'crimes' to get headlines (personal experience), sluffing off stuff like this (because it's too much work for their lazy butts) and generally forgetting that they are OUR EMPLOYEES!!!!

Get out the phone book and call your state's Attorney General's office. Tell them that the police are NOT doing their jobs and are suggesting that you put yourself in harm's way to do the job for them. If you get no satisfaction there, find a local TV station that does investigative reporting and have public pressure put on them AND the Attorney General's office. If you can't get a TV station involved, go to court. File a Pro-Se (it means do-it-yourself) motion for a court order to get the police to do their jobs! It costs nothing to file, you represent yourself (you just tell the judge all the facts and gove him any documentation you can muster up. Also have neighbors come in and testify to the truth of your claims.

Thomas Jefferson said that a republic would need a revolution every 200 years to keep it strong. We are OVERDUE!
