u can convert your dvds to pmp format put it on memory stick and enjoy it.

yea but its nice to have the actual disc and case....
 
Why are they called Universal Media Discs when they only play in one machine? How can someting so proprietary be called universal?

couldn't have said it better myself...

bought a Sony Memory Stick Pro Duo 2GB card for $117
last month.(plus tax) Depending on the resolution I set,
it holds 3 to 4 movies. (plus I can put TV shows on the
card and watch it anywhere I want.

Not everyone is savvy enough to do that. And not everyone has access to downloaded movies or tv shows (or cant cap them themselves) and like was said earlier, sometimes its nice to have the disc and the case.

As much music as I have in MP3 format, I still have CDs of the artists and albums that I really like. I dont listen to the CDs but I have them for the liner notes, coverart, etc. Same with DVDs. And, I assume, the same with UMDs.

However, by the same token, I have a Pocket PC with 4GB of storage in it. I have movies and tv out the wazzoo on that thing.
