Anybody knows of a similar device which doesn't use a wireless network and that you can control yourself through USB?

(I am aware of the dev kit for the ambient orb but I'm looking for an alternative since my laptol doesn't have Serial RS-232)

If you go to the company website, they have very detailed information available, including a borad you can order for $39.95 + 4.95 shipping that give your ORB a serial port. They also have the schematic if you want to build your own serial interface. The software also appears pretty open, and you can sign up as a developer and controll your ORB wirelessly for a fee...

I ordered a couple, and I'll go to the Mfg. website and get a serial board (or three) and use them to track my own information - with the serial interface, each completely controlled ORB becomes a $80 glowing, well, orb under your control...

Order Cancelled by Amazon


Amazon accepted my Orb order, then cancelled it the next day. Their logic was that they advertised the incorrect price (or to great a response ?).
I guess . . . . it was to good to be true. Oh well.
