What Keeps Your Motor Runnin’? Is it the freedom of the open road, the wind in your face, or the warm sun on your back? We should all have something in our lives that makes us feel more alive and connected to the world. For some it’s the thrill of giving life through blood donation.
life-saving blood donors, grateful recipients.

The American Red Cross invites you to Keep Your Motor Runnin’ by making an appointment to donate blood this summer. From May 1st through September 30th 2006, when individuals donate blood, they will ride off with a newly designed “Biker” t-shirt (while supplies last) – and a chance to win a 2006 Harley Davidson Fat Boy Motorcycle. It’s all part of the 100-county Greater Alleghenies Region’s Keep Your Motor Runnin’ summer blood donor campaign..

“Summer is an extremely challenging time for maintaining adequate blood supplies. People are engaged in summertime activities and travel, and businesses are short-staffed. The Greater Alleghenies Region collects approximately 20% of its annual collections at high schools, colleges and universities – which are closed or have reduced numbers of faculty, staff and students during the summer – which increases the challenge. Yet our regions blood demands do not decrease. Every two seconds, someone in the country needs a blood transfusion – 365 days a year. The “Keep Your Motor Runnin’” campaign is our way of thanking those who take the time to donate blood during this critical time of the year,” explains Taunia Oechslin, Senior Director of Donor Recruitment at the American Red Cross.

Blood drive sponsors are ‘revved’ about this summer’s blood donor campaign and are going all out to ‘fuel’ the ongoing need for blood transfusions. They’re waiting to schedule appointments and excited to bring you the opportunity to share in the thrill of blood donation.

For additional information about other upcoming Red Cross blood drives, call 1-800-GIVE LIFE (800-448- 3543) or visit www.redcrosslife.org.

Individuals ages 17 or older, and who weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health, may be eligible to donate blood. Those with questions about eligibility requirements should call the Nursing Collections Department at (800) 542-5663
