Amex - Get $20 Back for Spending $40 Twice at Walmart

I dont see how this is a good deal. I'd rather pay the extra 20 bucks and not have to deal with credit and their late fees, penalties and yearly fees.

if you already have an amex, and as soon as you use the amex, go home... use bill pay for the amount you spent... forget the fees, penalties, and yearly fees arent with all amex cards

What are you talking about?

ya, I have to agree with aztek. Don't get a card that has yearly fee. And I don't know what late fees, penalties, and credit you are talking about unless you don't pay your bill.

For me, it's an extra $20 back from $80 i'm gonna spend anyways!

Sweet!
:peace:

i dont pay my credit card bills cause i dont have any... im just surprised at some of the things credit cards offer these days in a time where alot of america has alot of credit card bills they cannot afford. maybe not you, but alot of people will go out and spend 80 bucks they werent going to spend before because they are getitng a deal by saving 20, when really they are spending 60...

miss a payment once and have them charge you 35 bucks, or adjust your interest rate to whatever they want, and the 20 dollar deal doesnt sound so good anymore... enjoy

who doesn't go to walmart for just daily items? So, mind as well get the free money for spending what you have to spend anyways. Amex Blue is free and you get free air miles too. you pay it off each month and who cares how much the APR is. I know this is a good deal for me esp. with Christmas rolling around!

I don't have any credit card bills either, but i still pass my money through the accounts and get the freebees. I don't carry much cash often and certainly not enough for big purchases. I have had AmEx since the 80s for business and so if I can make $20 by passing my normal purchases through it, why not. it's just a matter of being disciplined and paying the bills when they come in. I get to have MY money in an interest bearing account for an extra 15-30 days.

for people who want to screw around with credit card companies, who love nothing more than to find ways to increase rates and charge late fees, so you can earn a couple pennies interest on 60 bucks and save a few bucks, this post is for you.. in the long run, much more beneficial to stay away from them

Did you seriously sign up today to spew this crap? You spend $80 and get $20 back. I don't understand how you can't see how this is a great deal especially since many of us will spend $80 at Walmart on household things regularly.

You try and go spend $100k+ in business expenses a month with no credit card and see how that works out. I've used my Plum card for 1 year and maybe this doesn't count as the "long run" to you but I've received over $50k off my balances.

If you're not responsible with your money, then you should stay away from them. For me, this is a great deal! Thanks Spoofee!

Yup - credit card companies hand out free money like this all the time. Discipline is all earning these rewards requires and you pay no fees or charges of any kind, but get lots of free stuff. I will take my free travel miles, and free $20 for money I spend through the card anyway. Thanks Spoofee!

thanks 20 bucks is 20 bucks.

Never buy something with the credit card unless you have the cash to pay it off. Pay it on time = no late fee or finance charge. $20.00 is pretty good pay for 10 minutes work. I keep my cash in a bank and use credit cards all the time and NEVER have to pay penalties or interest. Very convenient and last week I cashed in 40,000 Amex points for $400.00 in Home Depot gift cards. The "trick" is to keep a zero balance month to month. Can't lose.

Is this offer only for new Amex cards with Walmart or will they honor my pre-existing card?

You just quoted that you are responsible with money BECAUSE you borrow it from companies who's main income is from screwing consumers with late fees, penalties, and interest. Now, I didnt say that everyone with credit cards gets screwed, lets not put words in my mouth here. I simply said people who do not use them have 0% chance of dealing with their crap. And while spoofee users apparently are all 100% responsible with their money and credit cards from what i see by the 6 people in this thread, hundreds of thousands are not, and AmEx knows this, so they give out deals like this. It's way easier to go into walmart and buy more than what you came for because its on credit. Again, I realize not EVERYONE does that, but no ones ever spent more money than they have when they are paying cash or using a debit card.

Beware, this might be a scam to get your credit card number. I contacted American Express to verify this deal and they said they are not aware of this deal. So if they don't know about this, how can they give you $20 credit to your account? Below is the answer from AE representative to me, so take this deal at your own risk:

Has anyone verified this with AMEX? The registration requires your additional 4 digit code with you usually don't need unless you are buying something.

AMEN! Thanks for saying what I was thinking. What's with all the irresponsible whiners on here that can't manage their credit card bills properly? Pay them off each month in full you morons or don't use one. I do and I don't have any problems. Try taking responsibility for our own actions. You can't blame others for your own stupidity.

Thanks much Spoofee! I was in Walmart this past Sunday evening and recalled seeing this offer. Punched up the website on my bberry while in store and registered my Amex card. Made 2 separate transactions that night one of $42 and the other $46 (we're talking boxes of diapers and baby formula which adds up!) in the same checkout line, and wouldn't you know it, today I have a credit of $20 on my Amex statement online! Awesome! Now to do it with my business Amex card! :)
