I read Tedebear7980 's comments of what to do to keep the kids busy this summer. I am having the same problem...but my girls are older (12 & 14). I can only handle the mall so many times. :car: :money:

I signed them up for the swim team. and I signed them up for girls softball. Only thing is, swimming practice is at night and softball is only 2 days a week.

Any ideas???

There was an article in our local paper (couldn't find it on line tho) about a couple who were just arrested because they kept their teenager chained to the livingroom radiator and stapled to the kitchen floor (used duct tape to tape him up and then stapled the duct tape to the floor - I can give you better instructions if you pm me ;) )
I found that quite amusing as a way to keep unruly teens in line:rolleyes:

Hope it helps! ;)

That has to be very strong duct tape and heavy duty staples or one weak teenager.

BTW I don't think jolara was saying that her kids are unruly.

What about camp for a couple weeks or alternating having friends over and sending them to friend's houses? My :money:.

Didn't mean to imply that her girls were unruly....(trying to start trouble BD?? )

Did you try your local YWCA?

It's never too late to buy a kiddie pool, fill it with mud, and get them learning the art of mud wrestling ;) lol JK!!

Oh the YMCA, that's a great idea! (hearing village people song flash in my brain) We live in a VERY small historical town. We have 2 stoplights, 2 grocery stores and about 6 bars:beer_yum: , but no YMCA. However, the border of the "metropolitan" Phoenix area is about 18 miles away. So I can get to one there.
There is a candy factory (mmmmm, chocolate) nearby and they give tours. I thought of taking them to that. So there goes 3 hours...

Oh, and just for the record (and I know Preco wasn't suggesting otherwise) I have two great girls. The boy is another story entirely! ;) I find the hardest part of raising teenagers is learning to know where the boundaries lie. "Do I mention to them that their hair looks stupid, or let them express themselves?" "Do I let them wear that outfit I wouldn't be caught dead in or let them just wear it because it is "in" " hardest one yet...how do I tell them that their crush is an obnoxious idiot without belittling them?!

Are they into crafts at all? I have 2 girls 10 and 12 and we go to the library take out books on crafts and they do some projects and then give the finished items to their friends ,put away for christmas "gifts" or keep for themselves. The 12 year old has said she wants to learn to knit or crochet this year so we'll see how that goes. But most of our time is spent at the grandparents pool. For some reason when their in the pool they are not at each others throats and driving me up a wall, they turn into the best of friends.lol

If we did I would be a happy man!

We do a variety of things during the summer, but we try to keep the costs down with freebies if possible.

1. Alot of movie theaters do "free" movies during the morning hours during the summer. They are usually movies that are already out on video, but it is always fun to go to the movie theater to see them.
2. Our library usually has a number of things lined up for the summer. Most of the things I think are oriented toward younger children, but some of the events (like juggling, etc) seemed to interest the older crowd. Some of the libraries also do teen only events.
3. Check with your bowling alley to see if they are doing any summer promotions. Last year our AMF bowling alley did a free game every day of the summer with a card they issued. It allowed you to play a game for free, but you had to rent the bowling shoes. If you had your own shoes, you could play a game a day for free.
4. Check into events at your bookstore. Sometimes they have some neat events lined up (Barnes and Noble does around here).
5. I like the crafts idea. We make alot of stuff around here during the summer. We created marshmallow guns out of pvc pipe. You place a little marshmallow in the tube and then blow through the tube to shoot it back out. The kids created different events (i.e. distance, try to hit the center of a target, etc)

I hope these ideas help you. Have a great summer!

When I was that age, I liked to make little goofy things out of fimo and sculpey. I also liked to make beaded jewelry. I had a loom that let you make these woven beaded things. They were pretty cool, or so I thought at the time. Is there a Michael's craft store nearby? You could take them there and see what looks interesting to them.

Lots of church youth groups have fun outings in the summer. Maybe you could get them involved in something like that.

Maybe you could volunteer with something like Habitat for Humanity or volunteer at a food pantry or soup kitchen.

Even if there isn't a Michaels nearby I'm sure there is a hose and some dirt for....well, you know what I'm talking about;)
