Arcade Question: High Score vs. Challenge

I have a question... someone challenged me in the Arcade and after I played a very good game of Breakout, I won.. here's my question: since I shattered the high score, how come it doesn't me having it? That's a bum deal if someone plays and they hit a high score and can't get acknowledged for it.

BTW: My score in Breakout... 200,400
