Are Coupons Worth It? WSJ

Interesting... my wife and I stopped trying a couple years ago because the newspaper never had any good coupons. We spent $1.50 on the newspaper to get the coupons, and we had a hard time saving $3.

Last week I bought 30 jars of Ragu pasta sauce, 16 boxes of Rotoni pasta noodles, 5 lbs of Clementines, a pound of ground turkey, Kraft salad dressing and a bag of fresh Express salad mix for $9.48. My total savings was $113.45 so yes I do think couponing is worth it.
:yesnod:
Sorry for the weird scan of my receipt. It was the only way I could get the whole thing scanned.

You go girl! I don't go out of my way to get coupons. I agree the ones in the newspaper don't always seem worth it. But there are some that come directly in my mail "SMART SOURCE" or something like that and I get them online too. I keep a file and only use them if I would be purchasing the product anyway. It doesn't always save a ton, but often I get a better brand for what I would have paid for the cheapo.

Thanks! I collect the inserts and file and date them. I only cut them after a deal pops up so I don't spend a lot of time cutting coupons I won't use. I also buy them off Ebay. The Ragu coupons I used on that last order cost $1.75. I knew the Ragu would be free after coupons so it made it totally worth it. :)

Sharon, you are my hero!!
BTW, I love your new avatar....did I say that already?:blushing:

SharonL, you going to eat all of that?

Well not by myself but I have a family of four and considering I use two jars of sauce each time I make spaghetti or lasagna it will not go to waste. I shop in bulk like that all the time. If something is free that week I will buy as many as I can and stock up. Last week I bought 20 boxes of Nabisco crackers all free. My pantry looks like a grocery store.
