Article - Early iPhone Purchasers - Apple Gives $100 Gift Card

If you purchased an iPhone before the price drop, Steve Jobs is offering a $100 gift card back to those customers.

Details are still being worked out

Smart move by Jobs for both PR and to get more sales.

I'll take the bait with my $100 rebate and probably get an iPod Classic.

Thanks for sharing.

I foresee a bunch of $100 apple gift cards on ebay soon

im gonna use my $100 on iphone accessories ... sigh... i guess getting half back is better than nothing. i still dont regret getting it when it first came out :D but honestly, it really needs ichat very badly.

Try meebo (meebo.com): it's a web-based multi-client chat for aim / ichat, msn, googletalk, msn. They've done some iPhone specific work, it's pretty decent.

Therefore, we have decided to offer every iPhone customer who purchased an iPhone from either Apple or AT&T, and who is not receiving a rebate or any other consideration, a $100 store credit towards the purchase of any product at an Apple Retail Store or the Apple Online Store.

it's an Apple Store gift card - but not usable as an iTunes giftcard so far :(

I personally think this is retarded. It's a risk you take when you want to be the first person on your block with a new toy. Now if you purchased one in say the last two weeks, then I can understand it. But if you were one of the gheytards standing in line for hours/days just to be one of the first ones to own an iPhone, you don't deserve squat IMO. :)

I believe Apple has a 10 day price match guarantee, so those who bought one within that period can get a price adjustment.

I can't wait till these things start popping up on eBay. I figure they should sell for around $60 each so I will buy 4 or 5 of them and then get my iPhone for about $250-300 in real money :)

I was actually going to buy one last week and then I decided, maybe I will wait till Christmas time when I know the price will go down even more, this may be the time to jump on-board!

I agree with this but not calling anyone names though. People want to rush out and be the first to get the new toy knowing that sometime it will go down in price. I believe that if it's been over 30 days you shouldn't get anything back. Nice on Steve Jobs part to offer this, he could have been a jerk and not offer anything back.

Apple should have realized that they were going into the cell phone market, quite different than mp3 players and computers and maybe they wouldn't have hhad to do this.

hear hear. Agreed to 100%

I really don't have any sympathy for the whiners who are complaining about the price drop. No one forced them to buy anything in the first place. They chose to pay $599 for what could be considered a luxury item, fair and square. People are too quick to point the finger at someone else.

This $100 gift card thing is a nice gesture on Apple's part, but I don't think it was necessary.

Even with this price drop, I think I'm gonna hold off on buying the iPhone until it can use AT&T's 3G network.

some credit cards have buyer protection (usually works for purchases with 60 days). not sure which ones, but a buddy of mines got his 2 hundo back. worth a shot if you know your cc has it. =)
