Why do people keep buying anti-virus software ... I have been using the Free version of Avast! Anti-Virus and it works great and does not slow down my computers!!!

Yea, but Why would I want a Microsoft AV program, It is AWFUL.

Look at it this way, When I got my new Dell desktop PC (2.1 GHz dual coreCPU, 4 GB Ram, 500GB HDD) it should not run slow as hell! I took off McAfee, and put on Avast! and it was like night and day. Avast has only gotten better over the years.

Because my previous PC was such garbage I could not play games on it, so after getting the Dell I was playing some of the old games I could not before. So I was playing GTA:San Andreas, and I was using a Trainer for the game, after about a week using the trainer, Avast detected that it might be a Trojan and quarantined it. I reported it as a false/positive and 3 days later it did not detect it as a Trojan anymore. I like the fact they listen to their users. I use it on my laptop and desktop and I know several people who are still using it today from my recommendation.

TekJock - I had the same problem as you with most AV products using so many system resources it slowed my games to a stuttering mess. I've been through all of them and Avast worked best for my situation. I went with the paid version because I need scheduled scans on my home networked computers. That's usually not a feature of the free versions. Even though the AV processes are running in the background waiting to catch anything that comes along you might be surprised when a full system scan finds things that got through. It happens.
