I got this tip from a mom's email group.
I just went to our Target (Wheaton, IL) and the $1 spot was 50% off.
They have some great composition notebooks for only 50 cents! Plus a bunch of other stuff (socks, colored pencils, coloring books, mini-markers, jumbo markers, notepads, trash cans, loofahs, bath mits, toothbrush holders, bath travel cases, hangers, sachets, soaps, lotions, laundry bags, hair bands, LISA FRANK STICKERS-bought a bunch of those for my little girl- tape, plastic serving pieces, cutting boards, board books, designer tacks, paper clips, mini clothes pins-great for hanging children's artwork on a "clothesline" on the wall- and proably a bunch of stuff more that my memory fails me on).
Other moms are saying that their stores were 75% off. Ours will probably go down to a quarter tomorrow morning
