Best Buy Cyberhome DVD Rebate- remember this one?

Best Buy screwed me again. Remember the Cyberhome DVD player that was offered for like $49 after rebate in early December? As usual they figured out a way to NOT pay the rebate.

I submitted the rebate in early December, and last week, over 3 months later, they return it to me saying "valid for in-store purchase only". I ordered it online, went to the store for pickup, where they printed me a rebate form from the register. I questioned the cashier about the instructions, she said send it in and everything should go fine.

Are their system really that poor that they would print me an invalid rebate form?

Takes them 90 days and then the boneheads deny the rebate. Guess I'm the bonehead for shoppinhg with them!

BB sux. Even though its been an OK player, I'm going to take it back today. What do you bet they say I'm outside the 30-day window?

I agree. I stay away from that store as much as I can. Just wish we had another type of electronics store around. If it's like our store, they will not accept the return no matter what. All the workers there do not know anything about what they are selling, but do know about their service plans.

I got lucky one time on their service plan- had a 75MHz computer which died ater like 4 years, and they HAD to replace it. Thing was- the slowest system they had then was like a 333MHz.. They honoured it, but even that was a struggle. The manager told me on a Friday night that I could choose a replacement system from the stock, but Saturday when I returned, the next manager gave me a choice between 2 systems, after bitching me me out and acting all discusted with me.

Another BB service story- I brought that same system in for repair and like a month later they call me- come pick it up. I go in, and they push the box over the counter and start working on the register. I'd heard nightmares about missing memory, etc, so I opened the box to check inside. Curiously, the hardware is ALL different! I get to checking in more detail, its NOT EVEN MY COMPUTER!

So I drove like 20 miles to have them try to give me someone else's computer..They say Oh! Well we will call you when YOUR'S is done.. Like 2 weeks later mine is finally ready and this time it really IS mine. No apologies, nothing. Totally inept.

As for a GOOD store- I used to think Circuit City was a hi-priced rip, but the more I deal with them, the more i LIKE THEM. They have knowlegeable sales people, and a nice product line including Polk Audio. I'd drop that Infinity line if I was them, but I suspect they'll learn about them in time. Nice products, but perhaps the worst customer service in the industry is my take on Infinity. I tried to get warranty replacement on a pair- they basically said "you didn;t buy them from one of our authorized dealers, so tough ****!" I pitched them in the trash, and now own all Cerwin-Vega or Polk.

Anyhow- their normally priced items seem to be on the hi end, but they do have great sales, and I gotta admit the sales and technical people seem right on top of things. I bought a car alarm there too and I've been back like 3 times with minor issues and questions- they are always helpful and friendly AFTER the sale.

I think psychologically, BB captured market share by being the "Home Depot" of electronics- big stores, no service. While CC is the Ace hardware- they are 2nd, but they try a lot harder. CC has my business that's for sure. Especially since this BB rebate rip is so typical of how they treat customers. We're an afterthought..
