Here's my dilema: My father-in-law thought it be a good idea to buy us a portable DVD player for our van (for our two kids, ages 5 & 2), but we already bought them one. We returned the DVD player at BestBuy and are planning on using the credit toward a very nice digital camera. We decided on the Minolta/Konica DiMage Z10 (3.2 mp/8x optical/4x digital). The price on BestBuy's website is $269.99. Walmart's price is $238 (or something like that) which is there every day price. If I can get like 10% off of the camera it would make it fairly close to the evil store's (Walmart) price. Is there going to be any 10% off deals happening with BestBuy or any $$$ off of a purchase in the near future, or currently going on? I'm going to purchase a rewardzone card so I can get the additional points for the purchase of the camera :D

Anyone know if BestBuy gives double points the first time you use the rewardzone membership card? Also, is $60 for a 4yr warranty plan on the camera worth while? I know Minolta has been in this business for a long time, so they are a trusted brand. I'm considering getting this as well. Any advise and input would be greatly appriciated. Thank you.

Best buy has a Price Guarantee: http://bestbuy.dailyshopper.com/lib/bestbuy//264023_b.JPG
See the lower right corner of this web page, which pretty much says the following:
30 days from purchase (14 days for select items), if a local competitor (excluding Internet) has a lower price on the same available brand/model, we'll refund the difference plus 10% of the difference. Present lower price verification and original Best Buy receipt for refund. Excludes special bonus, free and financing offers, and in CA, cellular phones/pagers. Ask customer service for details.

So, if I had my local Best Buy verify the price from Walmart's price (i.e. have them call Walmart) and indeed it's lower, I guess that would suffice right? Since Walmart is just across the street - I'll price it myself and see if they have them and what their price is. That'd make the camera a really good deal! $238 - 10% ($23.80) = $214.20 + tax (from BB's original $269.99).

-Michael

BTW: Thank you for the advice. I wasn't sure how exactly the price guarantee worked at BB.

Crossing my fingers for ya on this deal! :D Hope BB doesn't just pricematch it, but gives you the whole 110% of the price difference. I'd bring in a copy of their price match info, just in case (It's on page 35 of this week's BB ad for me, maybe different for MI. You can access the BB ad online and print it if you don't have their newspaper ad).

PS Sounds like in order to benefit from the Reward Zone deal (which costs ~$10 to join), you'll need to spend $300 to get a BB gift cert for $10. Then anything above that would be a bonus. I guess if you're a frequent buyer @ BB, that's not a problem, but if not...maybe it wouldn't be worth it, you know?

Also, after your first year, "your Membership does not automatically renew, and additional fees may apply to your renewal" and "Each Certificate expires and must be redeemed within 90 days from the date it is issued." <--summing it all up, seems like unless you're a frequent shopper there, it's kind of a hassle.

Thank you by the way, for the image of the price match guarantee. This will help with my purchase - although I think I'm going to have to front the $270 for the camera first because the item is only available online :( When I open the Reward Zone membership, I'll need $300 to break even ... that won't be a problem - I'm usually in BB twice a month if not more often for stuff. I'm sure it won't be a problem spending another $30 within the year. Actually, they do run promos for the Reward Zone program like double points for certain things throughout the year.

You're Welcome :)
Hope you're able to get your 110% price difference back for the camera!
PS there's a promotion right now for double points in the reward zone program if you get a nintendo ds game system (on page 1 of the ad) or gameboy advance. just fyi :D

Bad news... Walmart's price is only online. I went to our local store and the darn camera is priced $299.97 (BB is $269.99 online). So, I can't have BB call Walmart with the lower price because it isn't. Unless I get impatient from waiting, I'm looking for a coupon code for $$$ off, or percent off of cameras. I have a feeling that BB will run something in the next couple of weeks but it's just a feeling (to spur on spending for January). Anyhow, I did get my Reward Zone card so I'm all set with that. The Gameboy SP is tempting... but I think I can get it for a better deal elsewhere, and I'm not ready to get one just yet. (I've got ideas for what I want to do with a GB Advance...) Maybe for my birthday in Feb. :)

Oh no! :( That's so frustrating! Just in case, I tried checking other stores like Staples, CC, Sears, & Target (stores that are located nationwide and whose prices you could maybe use to get the 110% price difference deal from BB), but unfortunately they're not carrying that particular camera model.

BB does currently have a 10% off select digital cameras special, unfortunately the minolta dimage z10 isn't one of the sale items. :(

Is your heart absolutely set on that particular camera? b/c I am wondering...maybe you can get something similar but for a better deal (and not have to wait)? Otherwise, wait for a BB coupon to come along...hopefully it won't be long before one is available.

The criteria is that it has to have quick setup time turning on and between shots. Also, I don't want to buy a different storage card, so it has to be SD card supportable. AA batteries are preferred. We were looking for a high optical zoom. For around the upper $200 - $300 range, this was the best fit. I was surprized to find an 8x optical zoom camera. Anyhow, I don't know whether I'll wait much longer or order the camera... for now I'll wait :(

that is an impressive camera & the price isn't too bad. i looked at almost all the cameras on BB last night (since you're limited by having to purchase your camera there), just to see if there was something else comparable, and of all the cameras in the the $200-300 price range, that minolta model really stood out.

maybe wait just a little while to see if there might be a swanky BB coupon or a price drop instore @ walmart? who knows, maybe BB might even have a sale themselves? anyway, it seems you wouldn't be getting too bad a deal @ ~$270, you know?

My wife and I looked thru the 3 & 4 meg pixel camera and this definately stood out. It had a lot of features that we like and it received a very good rating overall. I read thru a few reviews that individuals wrote (found by google search) and they were quite impressive. It sounds like a lot of camera for not a lot of money - compared to others offered by BB. I'm going to try and wait for a sale or something on it. 10% would be worth waiting a couple weeks for. I think since we'll actually have a camera that we will be happy with (I hope), the next computer purchase will be a new photo printer. I'm partial to HP. I just saw the HP8150 and HP8450 printers on the sales floor of BB - they are pretty sweet. Would you know of any you would recommend?

Well, on my quest for lowest price I went to pricegrabber.com to provide lowest pricing on this camera. Even though it's pretty cheap elsewhere, I found a local competitor in the area selling it cheaper than Best Buy. Norman Camera sells this one for $249.99 in their store (cheaper on the web, but you have to pay shipping). Best Buy will honor the price but not the 10% of the difference. BB also said to bring in the price that I had (which all I have is the web price and the local phone number) and they'd order the camera and have it shipped to my house (will I pay for the shipping?). I told BB "I'd really prefer to order it from BB instead of traving across town to Norman to order it" :D ... (actually truth be told is that I have a BB gift card that I can only spend at BB). So, I got them to at least match price with someone and come down a little bit on the camera. :D

*** Did you know :hmm: ... you can go to pricegrabber, become a member and usually fill out product reviews on various things you have bought and receive a $5 credit? You need to write a product review, then after you are finished, send in the form (requested from their website) with a copy/original of the UPC and the store receipt and after the typical 8-10 weeks, they'll send you a bonus check. You have 3 months from the time you request the Product Review to send in the things to qualify for the rebate. It's something to know if you are planning on buying a computer component or whatnot. ***

:D YAY!! You got your deal! :claps: :claps: :claps: :claps: :claps: that's awesome! sometimes it's kinda risky buying items from lesser known stores that ship the item to you. at least by getting it from bb, you know exactly what you're getting! hooray!! :D

yeah, i've actually done this once before. still waiting for my check...

I bought the camera yesterday (Tuesday). BB pricematched with Norman Camera's price of $249.99. The person I was working with I believe took all my paperwork I had printed from the web to his manager and asked how to handle a pricematch on BestBuy.com... I don't think they actually called the store to verify the price. Maybe they didn't call Norman because I was already in the store earlier that day and since I had all my sh*t together, they took my word for it. If anyone does this in the future, you could play like the competitors price was even lower than what they told you (i.e. I could have told BB that Norman's price was $229.99). ;)

Anyhow, shipping was free and I should receive it on 1/3/05. I got my reward zone points for the purchase and I didn't pay BB's retail price on the camera. I'm happy :D I can't wait until the camera come in. I can't sell my existing camera fast enough...

That's good that it worked out for you. You have to be a saavy shopper and be creative when it comes to finding the best deal. A word of advice on Best Buy (and many other's) 110% price match guarantee:

You DON'T get the price match and then 10% off, for example:
$270 at Best Buy
$238 at Wal-Mart
$238 - 10%
$214.20 Again, you DON'T get this price.

You DO get the price match and then 10% of the DIFFERENCE, for example:
$270 - $238 = $32
10% of $32 = $3.20
$238 - $3.20
$234.80 This is the price you DO get.

I got to thinking about that 110% guarantee after I posted it. You are correct, although I still argued the point with a BestBuy guy. It's tough to get the price match when you don't have an advertisement proving the price. Anyhow, I just went online and tracked my shipment ... it's in Maumee, OH traveling via UPS. I should receive it in a couple of days. I can't wait :)

I'm waiting for some expensive electronics too (one has already been delayed), and it's raining like crazy here in CA. Hopefully they arrive safe.

It looks like the UPS man will deliver my camera today. It was 'out for delivery' as of 7:30am. I'm excited to try it out.
