Why 64-bit, alternative?
besides the cpu, the spec is pretty decent
well, it is a price even lower than netbook, can't ask for too much
but why does it use a 64bit windows 7? not much useful unless it has at least 4GB ram
That it includes 64-bit Windows 7 is good, so that if/when you maximize the RAM to 4 Gig you will be able to use all 4 Gig (minus RAM for integrated video).
I'm very close to pulling the trigger on this - I have a handful of BB gift cards that would make my personal out-of-pocket quite low, but I don't really need another laptop. I'd like to drop Ubuntu on this and have a nice, low-cost travel laptop that won't break my heart if lost/stolen. I don't use laptops on flights (I use my iPod/iPhone), but I do carry a laptop bag because I don't want my expensive laptop to go "missing" from my checked baggage. At under $300 this is very appealing, and the specs are mostly one step up from most netbooks across the board.
I think I'm gonna go and see what it looks like in-store, then decide. I'm concerned about the keyboard key size/feel (how "compressed" is the keyboard to shove in a numeric keypad on the right side of the keyboard?).
If I was going to get anything else, I think I'd go for the ASUS dual core Atom 12 inch netbook that can go to 4 Gig of RAM and has a HDMI video port -
