BFG GeForce 7800GS AGP Video Card for $167.77 Shipped After Rebate

I've been keeping an eye on this. (The deal [rebate] has been around for at least a couple of weeks.) This is pretty much the top of the line upgrade you can get for an AGP machine these days. All the reviews on Newegg are extremely positive as well.

This could be the perfect video card for someone looking to upgrade their old AGP machine that still has some spunk in it left.

I'm not quite sure I need this yet, so I might wait a while longer myself as my current video card is doing alright.

Does this thing have HDCP? (Short for high-bandwidth digital-content protection) I looked all over newegg and couldn't find anything about it. I would like to use it with the xbox 360 HD-DVD drive if it does. I hope somebody knows.

I just did some quick research and from what I can tell it doesn't support HDCP.

Thanks Ordanos! I appreciate the quick response, this is a great community! I guess I'll just have to upgrade my motherboard to pci-e, I've just been putting it off and I thought this may give me a way around it. Thanks again Ordanos!

No problem. I'm as interested in the card as you are. ;)

I really don't want to upgrade my motherboard yet since that means:
new processor and new ram in addition to the new video card. It's probably the exact same boat you are in. If you're really in need of HDCP, you could always try waiting another month and see if another AGP card comes out with HDCP support. I believe the new 8 series nvidia cards support HDCP, but may be wrong. (Maybe those 7800 GSs are on rebate because of new 8800GSs coming soon?)

You may want to consider the ATI Radeon X1950 Pro, which has taken the crown as the fastest AGP card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814131035

It's slightly more expensive ($220. after rebate), but worth the extra money IMHO.

Hmm, great information on this. Thanks. This card is now in my "think about" folder along with the 7800GS. :)

From all the reviews I just read this card sounds like it would blow the 7800gs out of the water. It's also 226.12 (with rebate and shipped).
So 226.12 - 167.77 = $58.35 more.

djdsk8 - From what I've read, I believe the X1950 Pro has HDCP support as well. The main draw-backs apparently are: 1) huge cooler might take two slots. and 2) takes lots of power so you need to make sure to have a big enough power supply.
