Blockbuster.com Online Rental Has Reduced Price to $14.99 / Month

Blockbuster.com ( News Article ) has lowered their price today to $14.99 / month. You will get 3 rentals out a time and 2 free coupons for in-store rentals every month. You can sign up for a 2 week free trial to see how fast or slow their service is.

I've got bad news for you, Blockbuster--Nobody loves you, and a lot of former customers despise you. You're late to the game compared with Netflix, but you have tons of capital. No worries, your impossible price-point won't kill the competition... I suspect they'll lower their price again, but, regardless, I'd gladly sink an extra $35/year in any company but yours.

What's so bad about their service? To me, this looks like a dead winner compared to Netflix if their service is fast. Plus, they give you the advantage of a couple in store rentals per month in case you forget to get a movie when company comes over. :)

I had Blockbuster online and it was bad. Their service is very slow. In the month I was with them, I only received 10 DVD's. Out of the 10 DVD's I received, 3 of them got lost in transit and had to be resent and 1 was lost after I sent it back to them and they tried to charge me for not returning my movies.

I should also add that I have tried Netflix for a month and they were not all that much better. So I guess it would be best just to go with whoever is cheapest, if you choose to go with any of these places.

Interesting, thanks Choo.

I used Netflix for about 5 months and loved it. Was able to get on average about 25-30 movies a month. I live in Michigan, and their mail facility in Lansing is just a couple hours away from my house, so I'm sure that helped.

I work with a guy who did the Blockbuster in store thing for a month. He "backed up" every single movie he wanted in that store in one month. It was insane. He got like 300 movies for the $25 fee, not too bad.

Does Blockbuster still offer the instore deal? And is it still unlimited rentals a day?

I tried the Blockbuster 2 week free trial and am now trying the Netflix trial, and so far I am more impressed with Netflix. Over the 2 week trial, I managed to receive only 7 DVD's considering that I mailed them out within a day or 2 after receiving them. I signed up for Netflix's free trial on Sunday night and received all 3 of my DVD's on Tuesday! I'm gonna finish this trial to compare, but so far, Netflix has speedy delivery.

Bottom line: If you're goin for speedy delivery, choose Netflix.
If you're goin for price, choose Blockbuster.

I've tried Blockbuster instore, online, and netflix. Blockbuster instore rental is great as long as you have time on your hands to get in the store and rent like crazy. However in my case I always had to wait on my family members to watch them before I brought them back so only being able to take out 2 wasnt enough. Blockbuster online is very slow (I live in MD). It took 3/4/5 days to get rentals from them. I do like the 2instore rental but it doesnt make up for the slowness. Plus everything is always on wait. When I sign up for Blockbuster online I got shrek 2 dvd for free so I figure I got my moneys worth even w/ their service.

Netflix I think is the best. I would get my dvds in 2days and never had much of a wait.

Satisfied w/Blockbuster.com

Been a customer for 1.5 months. Satisfied so far with speed of delivery etc. Love the two free rentals at the store (down the road from me ~5 mies), great discount coupons for Ben & Jerry's icecream (2 pints for $6), tub of popcorn and 2 litre soda for $2.49. I used to but alot of DVDs but this service keeps me in supply of the movies I want to see, and I've saved abundle. Dropping the fee from $18 to $15 is just icing on the cake.

I did blockbuster's online thing for a month, I wasnt satisfied with the speed of delivery. I had them mailed to Irvine, and their distribution center was in Santa Ana or something (not even 30 mins from Irvine) and they still took forever to mail out a DVD once they receive one. Even after they said they upgraded their systems (saying the will mail out the next as soon as the one you sent back is scanned) They took 2-3 days to mail out another dvd. This wasnt even for hugely popular stuff (like old CSIs).

I guess customer experience varies.

I've been using NetFlix for over a year and I LOVE it! The turnaround for me is usu. 2 days. I tried BlockBuster and was not impressed. I had "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" DVDs in my queue and not only did all 3 came at different times but in reverse order: Disc4, Disc3 then THREE days later Disc2! What's with that! I couldn't start watching any of the DVDs until a full week after I started my "2 week" trial period. HA HA.

I'll stick with NetFlix

Thanks for the good feedback, and welcome to Spoofee! :)

Netflix.

I just cancelled my blockbuster account last week after 2 months with them. SLOW.
