Okay... I'm making a cake for my daughter's birthday. She's having a rock star themed party. I'm trying to construct a star out of a 13 x 9 sheet cake. You would think that somewhere out on this vast internet we have that someone would have posted a how-to or a plan for this, but they haven't. I have been trying, unsuccessfully, for a couple of hours to make one myself (in between making dinner, taking care of the children, etc).

I was trying to make a pentagon and then construct points out of what's leftover and I haven't had much success. (BTW: I was testing this out on sheets of paper, etc.) Then I thought that maybe a pentagon wasn't the way to go and that led me to think of Tangrams! I had these puzzles when I was a kid. You could make pictures out of shapes. So... can anyone recall how to make a 5 pointed star out of a tangram? or any shapes that you please? as long as they fit in a 13 x 9 pan?

I know that someone out there is smarter than me (probably more than one person) and is up for the challenge! Right now... my brain is mush.

THANKS!!!! You are a great big help!!!!

Thank you thank you thank you!

I'll be back shortly... I have to go put the kiddies to bed!

If you haven't already baked the cake, maybe a star shaped pan would be the way to go, I made a really cool barbie cake with a wilton cake set, those are good pans, here's a pic....
I made this 4-21-08 contrary to the pic date, LOL

Wait... is that the same chocolate-covered, bare-naked, little girl we've been hearing about?

She looks sweet and lovely!

...and you did a BEAUTIFUL job on her cake. Wow!

I did a Barbie cake last year, but it pales in comparison.

I used a Kitchen Aid Mixing Bowl for the cake... I'm a hack, but it turned out pretty well.

Speaking of which... yes... the 13 x 9 cake has been baked. If worse comes to worse, I just use a cookie cutter and put a sugary pink star on top of the frosting. I just wanted to give this a good try.

Hey Ultimategrafx, I corrected the date on your pic for you

LOL, that's her older sister, they look a LOT alike! No the older one is Miss Priss, she is the princess type, loves dresses and tiaras, and this cake was perfect for her! Thanks for the compliment, it wasn't easy, my arms and hands were acting up that day and I was in so much pain but I had to do it, she had been asking for that cake for 3 years now! No pain no gain, LOL!
