Alltel is merging with Verizon and this will let Alltel subscribers get out of their contract.

Alltel users should have received a letter regarding this at the beginning of June. On the letter, it states that you can end the service without any early temination fee within 60 days of receiving the letter.

Thanks to Spac3d for the notice!

1. Call 1-800-ALLTEL1 and ask to get out of the contract
2. Mention the letter if you will be charged a fee for cancelling
3. AllTel may ask why

- Home Rate and Coverage Area and Local Calling Area and the possibility of any toll, regional calling, or long distance charges that may be associated with any usage of the service. (Verizon Wireless Customer Agreement Terms & Conditions, CA-P.4)
- Roaming and Roaming Charges (Verizon Wireless Customer Agreement Terms & Conditions, CA-P.4)
- Rights for Dropped Calls or Interrupted Service, including credit given for calls that are not able to be completed (Verizon Wireless Customer Agreement Terms & Conditions, CA-P.5)
- Verizon Wireless Rights to Limit or End Service or This Agreement (Verizon Wireless Customer Agreement Terms & Conditions, CA-P.6)
- Privacy, specifically the collection of information outlined in the Customer Proprietary Network Information (Verizon Wireless Customer Agreement Terms & Conditions, CA-P.6)
- Dispute Resolution and Mandatory Arbitration (Verizon Wireless Customer Agreement Terms & Conditions, CA-P.8)

Knowing cell phone companies, they'll probably give you a lot of crap if you try cancelling. But legally they have to abide.

Is this for ALL ALLTEL customers. I have Alltel and have not received this letter. I did however receive a letter last November telling my that some Alltel regional networks were merging with Verizon, but at that time, my region was not merging. So I am wondering are they finally Merging all regions now?

I am not sure where this states that you can cancel your alltel contract. I just called alltel and they stated that it does not state that you can cancel your contract without a fee. They stated that if you cancel you contract, there will be a $200 fee for doing so. They stated that nothing is changing in your current contract for you to ask to get out of it. Your contract is staying the same as it was. just a different name on the bill you get..if anyone has anything else, please let me know. I have been wanting to get out of my contract and go over to verizon anyway. This way I can get new phones. Hehehe.

Ok, i just received my Alltel letter today, but I am not being sold to Verizon. I am being sold to Atlantic Tele-Network. This is very upsetting, b/c all of my other family members who are in the next town over are being sold to Verizon. So now what was free mobile to mobile will no longer be free. Maybe this is terms enough to cancel a contract without fees. I did not ask to be put on the Atlantic Tele-Network, I would rather be with Verizon with my family.

I am with you Brother Ron....my number got sold to Atlantic TeleNet and all of my friends and family are going Verizon. Have you figured out how to get out of Alltel's contract with ETF??

Haven't had cell phone service for more than a week. Mine is Alltel to Att. So I am supposed to pay for weeks without service? They said I won't get service til end of December? It seems to me that should nullify my contract with them. I am angry with this cramp!
