agghhh i just bought this camera less than a month ago for 289... although, now that i think about it, it did come with a free photo printer (valued at 90 dollars but i think it dropped in price). also, you say it's from amazon.com but it's from dell.
If you bought from amazon within the last 30 days, ask them to do a refund for the difference - it's currently around $275 with them... they will refund you the difference, just send them an e-mail, and let them know your order number.
I'm really excited about getting the A710 IS. I'm going to sell the free printer (or at least the cartridges) which can get $30-$40 on ebay, bringing the price down to around $240 or so. The Dell offer would be a better deal, but I have to pay taxes @ Dell, so it would negate the better price anyway.
If anyone is thinking about this camera and doesn't mind waiting, Canon is coming out with the A570 IS, which seems to be the "baby brother" of the A710 - nearly all the same features (including the very useful image stabilization) but a 4x optical zoom instead of 6x, but it has the new Digic III as opposed to the Digic II in the A710. Not sure if the digic 3 will be a major upgrade or not, but it's the newer chip, either way.
The A570's MSRP is going to be $279, so you'll probably see it street for around $220 or less within a few months of its release.
Many have called the A710 a "mini SLR" as it allows you control over all your basic exposure and shutter controls, but from what I hear it's great in both manual and auto modes. Good night shots, too, and the image stabilization helps a ton.
