We are shopping around for car insurance and I'm hoping I can get opinions from everybody here about which ones to avoid and which ones you have had a good experience with.

GREAT IDEA! Last spring I shopped around and switched car insurance and saved $600! And I didn't go with Geico ;).

We have had Cinncinati Casualty and we now have AIG. Their prices were the lowest for the same coverage. Although we have never had to file a claim (knock on wood), we haven't had any problems. They are also highly rated companies (some kind of "AAA" scoring... I don't know the details...).

We actually go through a firm called Esser Insurance. All I had to do was call the secretary and she went through and found the best price for us. It was $100 less than the quotes I got online through Progressive. It may be worth it to see if you have a place like that who can do the work for you.

Allstate is good but can be more pricey. State Farm is good and might have a better deal than Allstate.

I think that you should get several quotes before changing your insurance. I recently shopped for insurance as well and Progressive was the cheapest quote for me. AIG gave me the highest quote. Hope this helps you. :)

Also while checking for qoutes, if you have taken the course sponsored by DMV which is supposed to give you discounts on your insurance, erase points, etc, etc, , you will want to make sure that the insurance company will honor that certificate. My husband is required to take it per his employer, and they offered it to immediate family members also. We learned at the class, that Geico and a few others were not honoring them. For that information you should be able to contact an instructor of that course for a full list of those companies which do not honor the course certification.

As per our experience, Our insurance company only discounted for one of us completeing the course.

I have Progressive... I like it because the quote is almost the same as others and it can be accessed online..

stay away from farmers insurance.

i used to be with them, but switched to progressive.

Deerbrooks is cheaper than alot. Best bet is to go to an insurance broker around.

*reminds self to insure privates with preco around :(*

I suggest Geico

I have been a Geico customer for 6 years and have never had any problems. I have had to file two claims, and never had any problems. The customer service is wonderful and my claims were processed quickly and efficently. Money wise, I have recently gotten quotes from other companies, to make sure I was getting the best deal. None of them could beat Geico. So, I am a satisfied customer and I used Farm Bureau before Geico. Service was good with them, BUT they were more expensive. :bigok:

I've had 21st century insurance for over 10 years and am extremely happy. Their rates are not the cheapest but also by far not the most expensive. Also, when you file numerous claims (I keep getting hit by crazy drivers and crazy people brake my windows with golf balls all the time LOL ), they take care of you very well and very fast! never had a problem at all.

A lot of it has to do with the agency itself...try this:
Pick any Insurance company that has more than one location in your area:
Call them both for quotes:
You will get two different amounts.......

There are websites that can compare quotes for you automatically.

Doesn't look like people agree on which one is best.

You pretty much get what you pay for.

i recently checked out some quotes at http://www.oneshopinsurance.com they have a couple of known companies here. so it's cool. it seems progressive's a high rater when it comes to car insurance. yeah, farmers had a bad review, not on our list.
