AP) - Virginia Tech, Columbine, Red Lake, Rocori; just a few of the schools where a student has used a gun to kill and injure fellow classmates and teachers.

Two Massachusetts fathers who were fed up with the violence, wanted to give kids a fighting chance against the guns. After years of work, they've perfected a bulletproof backpack.
The company, "My Child's Pack" wanted a lightweight bag that could be used to protect children from gunshots or from a knife.

The pack is available on the company's web site, the backpack has been certified as Level II body armor under federal standards. What that means, the web site says, is that the ballistic material can protect against a range of threats, including some 9 mm handguns.

The backpacks sell for $175.

Wow, this is a great idea. And at the same time really sad that we have to bulletproof our kids to send them to school.

What about bullet proof frontpacks?

If you're walking down the hall, and see your classmate with a 9mm pistol, you should turn and run THE OTHER DIRECTION.

Hence, the backpack rather than frontpack.

But if its a stray bullet? Or if the guy shoves it at you and just squeezes the trigger without you having time to turn and run?

You make a good point though, Monkey. Im not sure I like having anyone so logical on the board. lol

We should just start manufacturing the school uniforms from kevlar based fabrics.

It's a sad state of affair that we even have to be thinking about this.

Well, if you have books in a regular backpack, it'll be bullet proof.
