This is a video I had posted last week to show my friends what I had taken a small bite out of and I decided to share this with you since I know many of us shop at Target and I wanted to warn you all of this possibility.

This is a video of a Target brand Archer Farms cereal bar, purchased last month and opened last week from a sealed wrapper. The expiration date is December 2008. A few of my friends who normally buy this brand from Target have since been completely grossed out by the possibility of these things being in there, hiding in the nooks and crannies... I can't and I refuse to eat another cereal bar.

I had contacted customer service at Target and all they did was send me a $3 coupon to reimburse me for the cost of the box of cereal bars. They told me that this is their "100% satisfaction guarantee" policy. They told me that whenever someone complains about not liking the taste of their products, they are free to return them for a refund (and I obviously didn't like the taste of the product...). With that said, they told me "there is nothing more that we could do on this end because we notified the production line of this issue and they will try to correct what may have possibly gone wrong. All our grocery products have no 100% guarantee that they will be perfect, but we do have a satisfaction guarantee in case something like this happens."

Way to go Target. I'm definitely not shopping for my groceries there again.:eviltongue:

You took this video? What's really disgusting, but not surprising is that there is larvae in flour, wheat, etc. It may not have hatched yet, but it is a matter of time really. Ever had some little crawley bugs hatch out in your cream of wheat box? I have. Disgusting...yes. Especially when the expiration date hasn't been reached yet. But we all consume these suckers, even if they aren't yet wriggling around. That video is very gross though.

lawsuit time.

I can tell you are quite traumatized and have been permanently scarred to never want to eat a cereal bar again. ;)

Check with one of your local ambulance chasers. Work out a deal with them for a fee IF they win and the award is sufficient to cover the fee and something for your. If they won't go for it you can be certain you don't have a case.

BTW, where is there a Target in NYC? All I have ever seen is advertisement in Times Square at 42nd.

oh boy...I was totally not prepared for that picture. thanks. :brushteeth:

LMAO  I want this for my October Avatar LOL only with the pumpkin getting sick from to much candy.

I did not watch the video I just can't I would be doing what the pumpkin is doing

Gross.Never buy those cereal bars.Ok I made a mental note.

Imagine how many of those (and other products) you have eaten with bugs/worms and you're still alive to talk about it. I'm not excusing it but IMO, I don't see a lawsuit. You buy something with "all natural" ingredients in it, you take your chances.

I bet they add extra fiber.
You should be thanking them.
:clown::p

Oh, com'on! It's very unpleasant, but not THAT gross...I was expecting a piece of a rotten mouse or something like a severed finger....

Yet, I'd still be pissed off myself

On the bright side, you can now save $3 on a warm cereal bar (or I should say worm cereal bar) - where the nature's best ingredients come to life! LOL

wow!! I will be checking my grandson's cereal bar very very close from now on!! how many worms was there? I saw 2 ughhhhhhhhhhh

I disagree. If you buy "organic" you might get this but not "natural". The companies should be held responsible to keep their product free of LIVE insects or whatever. It is true that there is an "allowed amount of foreign material" in food stuff but this is expected from the harvest and after the processing it should be OK to eat. Live worms/larva (whatever) is just not acceptable. On inspection it would probably be found that there was a small hole in the packaging where they go in. The area where they are are boxed or stored should be protected. In the fall I expect I will get mouse nibble holes in potato chip bags in the Cafe. Before being put out they are squeezed to make sure they still have air in them and I then get rid of the mice. Stores should have to do similarly and if they don't or haven't and serve contaminated materials they have to be made to do so. This can be accomplished via the courts. I don't think a satisfactory response is; "there is nothing more that we could do on this end because we notified the production line of this issue and they will try to correct what may have possibly gone wrong. All our grocery products have no 100% guarantee that they will be perfect, but we do have a satisfaction guarantee in case something like this happens."

If you have kids you know well that you can eat dirt, filth, bugs, etc and survive. I'm sure we could have a whole "Food Gross-Out Stories" thread on Spoofee and that we lived is not the point. It is just the standard that the industry must maintain in general to prevent even worse conditions like E-coil and such.

ooooh.....E-coil sounds scary....do we morph into snakes or something?
sorry. :p We know what you meant to type.
You've got some good points.

I disagree.

And you can. I just don't think everything has to have a lawsuit. What damage occurred? In this case, just the shock of worms. Ok? Had an extreme illness come of this, then ok (if proven), but the "gross" factor isn't enough...again...IMO to warrant "ambulance chasers". If we were to sue each and every food manufacturer out there, it would be neverending because of the "allowed amount of foreign material". The $3 was refunded (satisfaction guaranteed) and they won't be buying that product again. And, since word-of-mouth is a pretty powerful advertising weapon, sales may drop anyway so there is the rest of your satisfaction.

I see what you're saying. I just think the company under reacted. Had they said something like, "Thank you for alerting us to this. The matter is under full investigation so that everything possible can be done to prevent it from ever happening again. (and since it's truly gross) Here are coupons for a box of our product. etc. etc." I would be inclined to think they were doing everything in their power to handle it but "there is nothing more that we could do on this end because we notified the production line of this issue and they will try to correct what may have possibly gone wrong. All our grocery products have no 100% guarantee that they will be perfect, but we do have a satisfaction guarantee in case something like this happens."
suggests they did know the problem existed and that it's the other guys fault but not theirs because, "because we notified the production line". You are probably right that there is no lawsuit here really but you and me not eating these bars (I don't eat anything with wheat in it anyhow) is hardly going to matter to them and is why they can get away with just flipping it off. I don't think their reply was adequate and short of a lawsuit (which is why they award punitive damages) this company isn't going to be responsible for what is their product from start to finish.

I think both of you have very valid points. I would have been peaved with the verbal response from the company too. (That's when you mail your little crawly bar back to the company for them to review themselves)
