Is it me or do they have the wrong amount displayed for the rebate? I tried the link from here and from their site and they both link to a $20 rebate form, not an $80 rebate.

I found the same thing, however I found 2 rebates. 1 for $60 & 1 for $20
$20:
$60:

Expired

The $60 Dollar rebate says the the Hardrive must have been purchased between 7/2/06 and 7/4/06. IT IS NOW 7/6/06.

$60 is eRebate and valid only from 7/2/2006 to 7/4/2006

but compUSA still shows $80 rebate for this item

There are 2 $60 dollar rebates, and one is still good today. There is also a twenty that is good. The customer service rep told me to go through erebates.compusa.com and that takes cares of all the rebates eligible. Which total $80 dollars today. And I just did it online and paid an extra $5 shipping.

my area too... Sold out for pick up... :(
St. Louis, MO

Check twice...

Their site showed out of stock for the Chicago market as well. I called the store nearest to me (Geneva, IL) and they had 4 in stock even though it said none available on the site. The store manager seemed to think this was common.

Out of stock in Milwaukee, where I am at, and out of stock in St. Louis where I live. This is a waste of time.

I did an alternate deal. I got the 160GB external hard drive at Office Depot (product 420306.)

It was $129.99 minus $80 in rebates plus I used coupon 57455309 for a free cheapie CD player plus I am a Worklife Rewards member so I get 5% back on my purchases every three months so that's worth another $6.50 off. That largely offsets the sales tax.

Net-net, it will turn out to be $49 after rebate and sales tax including a free cheapie CD player for my 4-year old son. I've gotten the free CD player before for my 7-year old daughter. Now they both have one. Domestic peace and quiet! Woohoo!

30 cents per gig for an external hard drive is a good deal.

Can you explain this?

I searched ODs website for 420306 and found a Western Digital 160GB external drive, but no rebates. Are they on another page?

UPDATE: Never mind :-), I figured it out!

I ordered mine online, only $5 shipping. To me the $5 was worth not having to drive across town, plus the erebates have already been filed.

Dang! Sold out for pick-up in my area!

This one went FAST! I searched + only found 1 store (of many) in my area that still had the drive. I paused to take a phone call, and that suddenly was OUT OF STOCK!

So I tried the chutzpah thing: I called that store, asked for the mgr., explained what happened and asked if they really were sold out. He found a few extra drives + agreed to hold one for me til' close of business.

Chutzpah, part deux: I realized that store was almost a 50-mile round trip. So I called my local store, just a few miles away + spoke w/mgr. I asked if they had any on hand (since the other store had). Bottom line, they also held one for me. I picked it up, then called a friend of mine whose hard drive had failed. This hard drive would be the perfect backup solution for her at this price.

After we spoke + saw she wanted the drive, I called the original store mgr. + asked him to let her purchase it (implied for me). Then I sent her over to the original store (which was much closer to her). We were both happy as clams! :)
