Copy & Paste for Laptop Windows Vista

I have ready every manuel, book, tips/tricks, but I am not getting it! Windows Vista is the operating system. Anybody have a easier explanation? I have tried to highlight the item, but sometimes it won't go/do, I need larger area's, or just a couple of lines, then the Ctrl+C and then Ctrl+V and then of course the left/right, selected the Copy then of course the Paste. I really would like some assistance in resolving this issue,

Some sites won't let you copy text some things. As an example snopes.com. You can't always copy from a pdf either.

you could copy from PDF by using text selection tool
