Corsair 32GB USB Flash Drive for $79.99 Shipped After Rebate

Can I boot from this?

Is it possible to put XP and boot off these critters? How does the I/O rate compare to an HHD? I just read a paper that solid state emories will replace Hard Drives in the not too distant future

Look up Bart PE.. Allows XP to boot from thumb or CD. The question is will the PC bios allow you to boot from the removable device.

Flash memory has a limited number of writes, so SSD manufacturers must implement algorithms to distribute writes across the drive ("wear leveling"). A flash drive like this doesn't have any such algorithms, so running Windows off of it would torture it. (Of course it would probably still last a few years anyway.)

Generally flash memory is faster with reads and slower with writes, as compared to hard disk drives. This varies between different flash memory.
