Hey everyone!!

I'm Jamie (most online people call me "Baba" though...whichever is fine). Anyways, I heard on the news today about Coupon Trains and I love the idea and most importantly, how much money people save with this concept.

In case ya'll don't know what it is (like I did until yesterday), its when a person (known as the "conducter") gathers up like 10 people and starts a "coupon train". One person puts coupons from the Sunday paper/printable coupons in an envolope and sends it to person #1. That person takes the coupons he/she needs and adds their own coupons and passes that along to person #2..and etc etc etc. Each person throws away expired coupons during the 'train' process.

I love Spoofee.com so much and would LOVE to see this idea come alive on here!! :teeth: :claps: :proud:

Is this a possiblity in the (hopefully near) future?

I'm not sure how this would work. Its a cool idea, but maybe more for a local group of people. If you find people on spoofee that are willing to try this out, that would be really cool.. but as a function of spoofee.. I don't think that could work out that well.
 
Ok - sounds good for a local group, but after reading your description of the process my mind (yes - I opened that can o worms) kept inserting "ponzi scheme" for coupon train.
 
I'd be interested. I get a lot of coupons on Ebay. I buy in bulk and normally have too many.
 
Other freebie sites have coupon trains with their own forum dedicated to them.

If Spoofee started something like this I would be interested. Of course there are rules that we have to be instated


rules should be similiar to this ( borrowed )

For the sake of argument, you have 10 people on this train.


Everyone sends their info to the conductor ( name address and wishlist if applicable) and the conductor coordinates the list.
the conductor then sends out the info.

On day one everyone gathers 50 or 100 coupons ( whatever the conductor decided) and sends to the next person below them so it looks like this
1 sends to 2
2 to sends to 3
3 sends to 4 and so on....

So we have 10 Envelopes of coupons all being sent on the same day.


Now depending on the rules of the train you may have different numbers of coupons, different rules as far as what types of coupons you can put in, and how much time you have to turn it around.

Generally you have 48 to 72 hours to open the envelope, take out any soon to be expireds, take what you want to use and replace the number of coupons you took out. ( take 5, including expireds, and replace 5)


then you close it up in a new envelope, stamp it and send it to the person below you on the list.



Ideally you sould receive a new envelope every few days. Sometimes they come more often, sometimes less.

It's NOT a local thing, just to claify. It's a nationwide "train" :)

I'd be willing to be the first "conductor" and have 10-15 people on my train, but I'm not sure where to post that. I would LOVE if there was a new section in the Community area (message boards) that was called "Coupon Trains". There are many, many sites that are already offering this new-wave of savings, and I would hate to have to join another board strictly for that purpose, when I love Spoofee so much :) I think everyone here has the same goal: to save as much money as possible!! Why not share that goal and help each other out? :)

And as PugGirl said, there are rules that are involved in this (as she posted).

Anyone else highly interested in getting this going?
 
This sounds like a lovely idea for a "lady's group," or a "Church Group" where folks can sit and share coupons and a coffee! Nice idea!

Okie dokie, seems to that people on here aren't really into that (which is surprising to me). oh well. just thought I'd give the idea a shot and see what people thought. :)
 
You know, I just don't get it.. I've seen these trains on other boards and have thought that they would be nice but for whatever reason I would only feel comfortable doing it with my "spoofee family"..

what's the big deal in giving something a try? .. especially if enough people are interested. Just because a few aren't interested doesn't mean other people aren't. People clip coupons everyday and it is a great way to save money. Spoofee is suppose to be for savings, be it for a real store or online shopping.

If it doesn't work out then shut it down. Spoofee is out nothing other than adding a seperate forum to the site.

My reasoning is that it sounds a lot like work to me. Gathering and cutting out scores of coupons, packaging them, posting them, receiving and sorting through them and having to look at every expiration date to remove the expired ones, and then repeating it all every two days or so? All the while only saving $7 a week or so (obviously just an estimate)? Who has time for that? My time is more valuable than $7. If and when I go through the coupons, I just keep the ones Ill use and Im done with it. Its much simpler.
 
My reasoning is because I don't want everyone in Spoofeeland knowing where I live and giving out my addy to complete strangers. Plus, I don't clip coupons.

the hard work pays off though. i'm guessing you didn't watch that video I posted above..

one girl's grocery bill came to 3 cents from all of her coupons, and another girl said she said over $11,000 in 1 yr from being on a coupon train.

so its definitely well worth it.

instead of dragging this discussion out any longer, I just joined a coupon train on a different website. if spoofee ever does it, i'll "hop on" a train. but until then, i'll be over there choo-choo'ing away lol

it would only be a group of 10 people per "train", so only about 9 people would know your addy, but you would know theres as well.

I'm with Babs....not into giving out my addy...besides....I already have DiGriz hanging outside all summer by the pool and under the deck.....*he keeps leaving all these rusting flakes all over*

Let me add my 2 cents here... :convinced:

I do not see a reason in creating a whole section devoted to this. If people are interested in this then feel free to send a PM to Babagirls and get something started on your own. It does not have to be a Spoofee community thing, but can be something that is going on between a group of interested Spoofee members. That way if anything happens to go wrong, anything is possible, the website owner will not be held liable for any problems that might arise.
