What size are you looking for? I've found one at 1.6 qts and have seen them go to 6 qts, although the larger the crock pot (AKA slow cooker), the higher the cost. Shoot, try a thrift shop and you'll find a nice one for inexpensive!

And here's one of my favorite slow cooker recipes. I get more compliments from this baby than anything else...
BAKED BEANS

3 slices bacon
1/2 c onion
1-31 oz. pork & beans in tomato sauce
1/4 c ketchup
2 tbs brown sugar or molasses
3 tsp mustard
1 tsp worchestershire sauce
8 oz can Bush's Baked Beans

Cook onion in bacon drippings until translucent. Combine onion, bacon, pork and beans in a slow cooker. Add everything together and stir.

Cook for at least one hour on low or medium setting.

Thanks! I think I will try my local thrift. There is one really good one where I have found a brand new ice cream maker and a fairly new bread machine so I'm going to check there a few times. I'm sure they have one sooner or later!

Thanks for the reminder!

Nope, but you can make some homemade pop-tarts instead.
Homemade Pop-Tarts

Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method
-------- ------------ --------------------------------
4 cups Flour
1 3/4 cups Vegetable Shortening
2 tablespoons Sugar
1 teaspoon Baking Powder
1 teaspoon Salt
1 Egg
1 teaspoon Vinegar
1/2 cup Cold Water
16 tablespoons Jam -- any flavor, divided

In a large bowl, cut flour and shortening together with pastry blender or two butter knives, until completely blended (mixture will resemble crumbs). Add sugar, baking powder, salt, egg, vinegar and cold water. Mix with hands until mixture forms a ball. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes. Divide dough into fourths, refrigerating the portions you are not working with yet.

Take first 1/4 of dough and roll out onto a floured surface. Cut into rectangles using a sharp knife. It is helpful to make a template the size you wish your poptarts to be, from cardboard or heavy plastic, so they will be a uniform size. Spread on tbsp. jam on one half of the rectangles, leaving a half inch or so on the edges without jam. Cover with the other half of the rectangles. Crimp edges with a fork. Bake at 350 degrees F. for 12 - 15 minutes or until the pie dough is evenly browned and cooked through.

Cool completely and place into zip baggies for storage until you are ready to eat them. Repeat with remaining dough and jam until it is all completed.

Variation: Glaze poptarts with a simple glaze made from powdered sugar, milk and vanilla extract. Be sure to let glaze dry hard before placing poptarts into storage baggies.

Pop-Tarts may be stored up to one week as you would store bread, or frozen for up to 3 months before use.

Big daddy,

Are you looking to say...

Beans! Beans! The magical fruit!
The more you eat the more you toot!
The more you toot-the better you feel!
So eat your beans with every meal!

:o

Wow- I don't think I've recited that since fourth grade...

I never heard your version, but its a little nicer than the one I haven't recited or thought of since last week. ;)

Wal-mart actually has some decent crock pots for $10-30 (depending on size). I think we got a 3 quart one ('West Bend' brand) for about $20 on sale. It didn't come with a cool tote bag though (our friend got a 5 qt one of those for ~$30)

Hey CG,

Fry's is having a 20 year anniversary customer appreciation sale & they're advertising the RIVAL 3060-W 6 quart crock pot for $14.99 for Silicon Valley, CA Fry's Stores.

(newspaper ad link: http://newspaperads.mercurynews.com/RopAds.aspx?adv=32664#

)

I didn't see it in the Dallas-FW Star Fry's Ad or the LA Times Fry's Ad for today & so i'm wondering crockpot sale price is regional. still, it might be worth it for ya to make a quick phone call to your local fry's to see if they have it on sale...?

Thanks! I'll check Fry's and give them a ring and see what they have on sale and wal-mart as well!!

Here's a song my best friend and I wrote in 5th grade:

Fart On The Wind~(written in the late 70's ~ inspired by Dust In The Wind)

Fart fart on the wind
and let in get caught in the breeeze
let it flow through the trees
and down through the sea
and kill all the little fishies~

Our teachers hated it!

Don't forget Big Lots. They always seem to have a decent supply there. If you want to buy direct from Rival, I think RIVAL5 gets you $5 off.
