Me too.
I have one also. It does work. However, there are a few problems:
1) Transfer speed is rather slow. Other products from other manufacturers are around twice as fast. Of course, this is to be expected since this was one of the first of this type.
2) Does not spin down the hard drive. This means that the drive is spinning 24/7, even if it is doing nothing and your computers have not accessed the drive in hours. This will use more power and shorten the life of your drives.
3) Fan is rather loud.
This unit does have its good points:
1) Built-in wireless. This does not matter to me, and I have wireless turned off, but it may matter to you. This is one of the only (if not the only) NAS to have built-in wireless.
2) Bring your own drive. Good if you have spare hard drives. About half of the NAS products include drives, and half don't.
3) OS agnostic. Mac\Windows\Linux. Doesn't matter. This box works equally well with all, being a SAMBA-based device. No special drivers needed (as oppsoed to boxes like the DS-101).
4) Flexible. It can hook up to external drives through the built-in USB ports. Just for giggles, I attached a USB-based CD-Rom drive. The CD-Rom was mounted and on the network in seconds.
Note that a lot of the reasons for bad reviews on Amazon was due to the fact that the device formats the drive in either EXT2 or EXT3. Well, DUH! It has to format the drive before use. Once it is installed, does it matter what the format is? It does mean that you cannot throw and old hard drive on there and expect to access the files already there, but I know of no product that will do that, and a simple $20 USB enclosure will let you rescue your files.
